..well we have a problem with the fact that Psychology is an academic and applied discipline..not a science. Yet we allow it to be given science standing to often. You and I can see a poor soul standing in the middle of the street,talking to his invisible friends/tormentors and agree we cannot allow him to be a danger to himself or others. We could also agree that he needs to housed,fed.."treated" ( I know that creeps me out also)...I know the horrors of meds and other treatments..I also know of great success for others. That's why it's a odd pseudo science. We cannot, for humane reason alone, allow the mentally ill to starve and live a hellish life nor can we lock up oddballs. There is a unknown percentage we can help lead a independent life and some need to be housed. It should be a legal proceeding, open to the public with the PERSON's best interest at the heart of the proceeding. This will cost money,however we pay a great price now in petty crime, drug overdoses and unpaid hospital stays etc etc. The crazy cat lady is not a concern. The crazy lady eating cats is.
