Here is an interesting link for y'all. Toggle back and forth (drop down box on the top left) between weekly volcano activity and earthquakes. See anything? Hmmmmmm

still not on global incident map..

but seriously people, we've seen more 7-8 mag quakes in the past week than we basically saw of all the last year. these are obviously foreshocks.

if you've been in delusion thinking california will not crack off, now is the time to reconsider.
 Quoting: SteamrolledGobias

the whole fucking state could fall into the fucking pacific and i could give a fuck less. its a fucking state full of commie, leftist assholes any way.
 Quoting: oscanator 24421278

why do you want 9.8 one in Washington or califonia?
you American are fucking nuts.If cheguevara lived another 20 years, south America would be the paradise.
 Quoting: Star God

if you're looking for a serious answer, because shit needs to hit the fan at some point. there are plenty of people who feel this way because anybody living in California/west coast knows that a large EQ + tsunami is a very real threat.

if they choose to continue living there, and die when it happens, oh well. their choice.

I believe this quake was 129 feet deep. Aftershocks do not always occur with deep quakes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33825666

More like 400,000 - 500,000 feet lol

1km = 3,280 FT
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24994495

My mistake for saying miles instead of kilometers above. the quake has now been changed and the depth is 153.8 km.

According to the usgs: 153.8 km (95.6 miles).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33825666

I just read an interesting study on this. (short version)

 Quoting: Ostria1

Hey, thanks for that. Good solid evidence that it's not unusual to not have aftershocks with deep earthquakes.

The activity seems like it would be the same time as the Colombia quake so most likely just that seismograph picking up that quake. 14:16:09 for the Colombia quake matches the time of the Yellowstone seismograph.

 Quoting: SteamrolledGobias
