Anonymous Coward User ID: 33389306 United States 02/12/2013 08:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The new strategy "unifies" federal efforts to advance healthy housing -- "demonstrating the connection between housing conditions and residents’ health." Quoting: Indysmindy The federal partners pushing healthy housing include the White House Council on Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Surgeon General, and Energy Department. HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan says the federal government must do "everything we can to ensure that individuals and families have a healthy place to call home." He said the strategy "will help the federal government unify action (on) controlling and preventing major housing-related exposures and hazards." EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said the government now has a "specific plan for action to address radon and other preventable hazards found in homes across the country." The strategy, she added, "is a critical step" toward ensuring that "Americans in all communities have healthy places to live, work and play." They already have radon inspections when you sell a house. Now they want to do radon inspections otherwise? And then what, if you don't pass, you get to dig up your basement? Put in a lead shield (that in turn will get in the way of drainage for the basement, probably.) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 34236376 United States 02/12/2013 08:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Healthy Housing is a code word for Assistant Living... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34236376 States can not afford to house assistant living people anymore! They will all be put in smaller units and part of a Federal Program not a State Program. Correct, here is my favroite line form the tax-payer funded study. These characteristics may be impacted by a wide range of factors, including the design, construction, maintenance, age, and overall condition of the building as well as the actions and behaviors of the home’s occupants. [link to portal.hud.gov] I am not going to click on any link ending with .hud.gov It is all over! This Government has sold us out! Thank God! I was not able to bear children! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33389306 United States 02/12/2013 08:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If.... If.... If.... Quoting: Rinty Big IF. If something like this could be done right it could be very beneficial. Most commercial buildings are designed to not last more than 30 years or so. And, to save money they look like crap. IF a massive rearrangement could occur wherein buildings were built to last like old Europe, many hundreds of years..., then all would benefit. But it would need change the entire system. 150 year mortgages etc. I said, 'IF'. Really? I don't see how a modern building can fail to last longer than that, with normal maintenance and (very important) proper drainage. Standing water will wreck a building. Short of an earthquake or a terrible wind storm, not much else will. Of course wooden structures built with TYVEK house-wrap are at risk of mold infestation as noted earlier. But I think it's still legal to build with tar-paper, which leaks a bit of moisture and avoids the mold problem, just that everyone wants to use the "modern" method. |

That is a town and state issue not a Government Over Reach issue! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34236376 Maintenance (ensuring that standing water is drained away, drainage installed to prevent recurrence) is also needed. You can get leakage around chimneys since (unlike Europe) flashing does not have to cover all the possible infiltration paths. But code is pretty good. |

And all of O's new rules would not change this situation a bit. Any physical thing -- a building, a car, a computer -- needs maintenance to have a long life. Some are worth maintaining, some are not. What's more likely is that Obama will use this to force people to modernize non-standard buildings, buildings that do not meet current codes but met the code when they were built, to force rebuilding and renovation which boosts the illegal alien staffed building industry, and can force some stable people out of homes creating space for O's favorite vulnerable populations to move in. O wants instability. He hates you handling your own shit competently. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21404904 You don't get it do you? This is not about "improving your health" or your home or anything, its about taxing you to death. Once this gets rolling no one will be able to afford any of their new regulations, so instead you will be taxed just like Obamacare. Although I did get the gist of your joke. . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 29184782 United States 02/12/2013 08:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | hopefully this is indicative of a trend of the governments willingness to spend more money on the people's welfare and less on warmongering. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34280316 What money? The government is many trillions in the hole. Obama's tab last year was $11 TRILLION in deficit spending. This guy is a real nutcase. He has no common sense. What he is doing is all he can for Putin. Pray that the Supreme Court takes him down at the end of this week. |

My point is the Government Over Reach will take any revenues from the Towns, Villages and States. As Sandy Storm victim you didn't think I didn't know maybe one day a hurricane or something worst could strike! i knew that day would come. With Geo-Engineering and any way to bring in a State of Emergency so local give up there control to TPTB! Fuck all of you and your geo-engineering and your thinking that you can ever that over! |
Chrit User ID: 27088294 United States 02/12/2013 08:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well look what I found. I have a feeling we would be in a very bad spot right now if the UN child rights treaty had been ratified. Don't miss understand me that treaty was not about child rights but a tool for the governments of the world to tax people under the auspice that "no one wants anything bad for the children." This is the study guide for the inspectors. Header Healthy Homes Specialist Credential Study Guide Prepared by the National Center for Healthy Housing May 13, 2009 www.healthyhomestraining.org/credential Building a healthy home environment for all children BLA BLA BLA I get to the end.... Snip; In addition to the materials covered in the previous section, the Healthy Homes Specialist needs to understand how to know the basics on the International Code Council’s model codes for housing. Go to www.iccsafe.org or www.healthyhomestraining.org/codes for more information. [link to www.healthyhomestraining.org] That is right international code... [link to www.iccsafe.org] So to sum it up were training inspectors to enforce currently voluntary building codes that are international law right now. Better believe they have a plan in place to make in non-voluntary & I think we missed the bullet when we failed to ratify that last treaty. Last Edited by Chrit on 02/12/2013 08:48 PM I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three. |

I was in the Sandy zone too, not close enough to shore to get flooded, but out of power for 10 days. And during the storm and aftermath you'd better believe I had my mind often on drainage. Moreso with the recent big snowstorm with much melting happening today. Yes I agree with you and I hope my village maintains its full rights of home rule. The pressure is building against it. It's gonna be a shit fight but we WILL fight for the quiet enjoyment of our properties. |
