Similar actions against Americans are already being implemented by the Bush administration. Will you allow him to bring it to full realization?
March 28, 2006 -- For years, Germany studiously avoided the production of movies about the Nazis. However, in recent years, with the release of movies like Downfall and Sophie Scholl, films that starkly portray the abuses of the Nazis and the insanity of Adolf Hitler, Germany is sending the United States a message -- don't go down that road. The Germans do not have to produce such films to educate themselves about the evils of Nazism -- that is engrained in today's Germans.
Germany's latest film export, Sophie Scholl, recounts the story of Sophie Scholl, a 21-year old college student at the University of Munich who was arrested along with her brother Hans in February 1943 for distributing anti-Nazi leaflets on the university campus. Both were active in the Christian White Rose group, an organization that saw Hitler and his Nazis as anti-Christian and atheistic fanatics. The comparisons to today's fundamentalist "Christian" war makers who surround George W. bush cannot be closer.
Germany is trying to tell us something in their recent films about the Nazis. Do we understand?
Along with another colleague, Sophie and Hans were condemned to death on February 22, 1943 in a kangaroo court presided over by the Nazis favorite hanging judge -- "Raving Roland" Freisler, someone who was known for berating and shouting down the accused, much like modern era Freislers like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Ann Coulter rant, rave, and berate their opponents today.
In the film, there is a reference to "the military impostor" who was waging an un-winnable war against both Russia and the West. Again, the similarities between the Austrian corporal and the AWOL Texan National Guardsman -- both of whom believed in pre-emptive military attacks against non-threatening nations -- are glaring. The Germans had already suffered a humiliating defeat at Stalingrad and were being repelled by the Russians when the White Rose began distributing anti-war leaflets throughout Germany.
After their conviction, Sophie, Hans, and their colleague Christoph Probst were executed by guillotine. Prison witnesses reported that Sophie went to her execution with courage and dignity.
