It is so much simpler than you can even understand, apparently, but here goes:

The Fear of the Lord is a holy reverent respect for God because of who he is.

The fear that we, as christians (those of us who really are) are to not have is a fear of the future, a fear of the unknown, a fear of our circumstances that may appear to be out of control, etc., because God is the alpha and the omega. He knows the end from the beginning. He holds our future. He is a good God and he can be trusted to bless us and watch over us.

I'm sometimes so wearied by the nonsensical bs that people come up with. I'm gonna tell you straight up. Either accept a perfect, holy, loving God and his son Jesus, or don't. Your choice.

The use of the word "fear" is not the same. The Bible was not written all in one language, plus it was translated from those languages into English. I think OP is confusing that it say God did NOT give us a spirit of fear. This is a specific thing. A general fear of God is a respect and reverence not terror. Why would the Bible tell us to be terrified of God? It may say that about unbelievers, but if you consider yourself His child you do not have any worry of be terrified of Him.

Fearing God keeps us in line. Like, when a child realizes that they shouldn't touch the stove, unless they get a spanking. Therefore, we fear Him, NOT man, because man can only damage the physical and emotional. God can damage all including the soul.
