Anonymous Coward User ID: 34494403 Canada 02/16/2013 09:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The large meteor had associated smaller meteors. A trailing, denser, smaller meteor, partially protected in the slip-stream, continued at a faster velocity than the larger meteor, which was slowed and heated dramatically by friction with the Earth's atmosphere. Quoting: MuzzleBreak A smaller meteor broke up, fell back, and then gained on the meteor fast enough to blow it apart on impact? Impossible. Think of a large water melon falling straight down, with a shot-put ball falling directly behind it by a couple of feet. Now imagine that they encounter a surface of 40 foot thick down-feathers. What will happen? First of all, it would be more like a small shot put chasing a bigger one, or a small watermelon chasing a bigger one. NOT a small very heavy object chasing a big, fragile, light one. If you had two items of the same material and different mass, you may cause them to re-collide with enough air resistance, but the smaller one will never have the force to catch up with and destroy the bigger. Following in something's jet stream makes you fractionally faster, if you have the same inertia. It can NOT cause the second object to move significantly faster than the first object it broke off from. Your theory doesn't hold up to physics. |

Some sort of laser. The technology has been around for a while and would be used on multiple platforms, defensive included. Patience is a virtue I just can't wait to achieve - CalmShock |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32004531 I had no idea we have missiles that can travel at 20,000 miles and hour inside of our atmosphere.... Detection can track incoming going at 20,000 mph, no problem. However, the meteor by the time you see this video wasnt traveling that fast. The lower atmosphere slowed it down to a manageable speed, and the tracking gave missiles maybe even their airforce time to scramble and intercept. Plausible., |

And that is exactly what a railgun needs. But Homopolar Generators are also an over unity device. So they are Classified. They are the generators in that one movie "Thrive". |

CalmShock User ID: 5056346 Canada 02/16/2013 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anyone recall the mysterious cauldrons buried in Russia that as legend goes are some sort of planetary defense system? Could this be our first evidence of this since there are no known technologies capable of pulling this off? Quoting: cauldron man 20197087 Wasn't that related to the Tunguska event? It's more likely that a defense system much more current is in place. My money is still on a particle beam. If this guy can light a candle with a refurbished light saber, just imagine what the Russian military can do... Patience is a virtue I just can't wait to achieve - CalmShock |
Plastik User ID: 4588928 United States 02/16/2013 09:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At first I was very skeptical about this but after looking at it again and again you can kinda see something hit the object. A railgun setup might be your best bet here with unclassified speeds of 11,500ft/s plus and the ability to use an inert object so you don't get the tell tale explosion from a missile. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Alternatively the fastest unclassified surface to Air missile I found was the Russian S-400 system with an operational distance of 250mi or more and speeds exceeding mach 12. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Also you wouldn't technically need to reach the speed of the meteor itself but only know the telemetry of the object to intercept it. Also LAZERZ. Anonymous Coward User ID: 20756371 United Kingdom 02/16/2013 09:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is still he contentious issue of the missile defence system in Poland. Obama is on a doom trajectory even without this missile/meteor. I'm listening to the SOTU speech. He talked about strengthening the missile defence systems. Russia will have noted this. On Wednesday he will be kept illegally in place by the Supreme Court and will wake up in his own mind as Supreme Leader winning his place by total manipulation of the system. Russia knows all this. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15740069 United States 02/16/2013 10:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The real question at this point is Who shot it down. Was it the russians using their own air defense systems. Or did we lend a helping hand with an Interceptor ? Keep in mind that we also had another Meteor explode over Cuba. Aliens ? Or perhaps we have always been the Aliens... |
