Sacrifice the Trees! You're Next! City plans to chop down 12 story sequoia, will become Sustainable nature playground. (agenda 21)
PORTLAND -- The 12-story sequoia tree that has become the center of a controversy over a city trail project will be "re-purposed" and turned into a nature playground after it is cut down,

The City of Portland plans to cut down the giant sequoia in Pier Park, in order to make way for a pedestrian and bicycle greenway.

"It will help kids connect with nature, and provide a sustainable, (they love that word) natural playground in the first such endeavor across our system," ..."We will mitigate the loss of the sequoia by planting seven giant sequoias in neighboring Chimney Park, where there are much fewer trees."

So, if the people don't want the tree for the park, why do they have to cut the tree? And then they tell them not to worry, in honor of it's sacricice, 7 are coming in it's place. Sounds strangely crytic to me.

I live in the area and went to that park all the time as a kid. It`s too bad they`re cutting that tree down but in reality it`ll have minimal impact.Pier park is a pretty good size park and the whole park is nothing but giant old growth trees. It`s like being in the woods while you`re still in the city. There`s another park just like it 3 miles away called Columbia park,it`s full of old growth too.And for those who don`t know Portland,Or., It`s also the home of Forest park, which is the largest forested area inside any city in the United States,a park that is between 4,000 to 5,000 acres of untouched wilderness right in the city.(pretty cool actually). So yeah it sucks they`re gonna cut the one tree but for the most part they work really hard to preserve natural spaces around here.

ok, I'm cool with it, then. Bring that big boy down. Swings, and merry-go-rounds, and planters, and things to climb on...all that shit! everywhere! ....or is that stuff still legal? have they outlawed swings yet?
