LASIK before shtf?
I have pretty bad vision and was curious if anyone else has considered LASIK before everything goes to shit? Glasses an contacts will not be readily available, no?

Re: LASIK before shtf?
hoard glasses

clearlycontacts.ca often gives out amazing deals on glasses, like 99$ for designer glasses....

the glasses i have right now were free from them, i just paid 17 dollars shipping.

do this, because lasik turns your night-vision to garbage, and when tshtf believe me...you'll need night-vision...

Re: LASIK before shtf?
friend of mine had lasik, instead of doing it here in germany, she did it in turkey.
all went good, she needs no glasses anymore.
but be careful when you look for a clinic to do it, read recommendations and stuff before.

Oh? I had no idea it messed with night vision, I had considered doing just that, and hoarding glasses and contacts, but what if my eyes get worse, that always bothered me

if they get worse, well, having an old prescription is better than no glasses at all, no?

someone i worked with had to quit driving at night after he had Lasik.

Re: LASIK before shtf?
@ OP, I did it. For that reason. Glad I did. I went to the most expensive place in my nearest city. I do have some star-burst effect when looking at streetlights and all but plenty good to drive. Sometimes the full moon has the star-burst effect too when I look directly at it but for normal. Usually I can focus it out. It has little to no effect on my general nightvision. When there is problems who will be having bright lights around anyway. My nearsightednes was terrible so in comparison. I recommend you do it if you can. Just don't get it done cheap! Hope this helps you! Peace

Re: LASIK before shtf?
you don't really want lasik unless you're already old.

it drastically increases age related macular degeneration.

Get it done now. Even if you have to go into debt to do it.

Re: LASIK before shtf?
I had it done about 2 years ago at LasikPlus Vision Center. Best decision I've ever made. My night vision is fine. I was worried about that because I have a telescope and like to view the night sky.

Immediately after the procedure, my vision was cloudy, but by the time I got home it had cleared up and I could see great! The only 'problem' I have is dry eyes, so I occasionally have to use eye drops.

ps. Don't let the burning smell scare you. They forgot to mention that part to me....lol. After they cut the flap they burn away (reshape) your cornea with the laser. Don't worry, you don't feel a thing. It is painless.

It is precisely because it is fashionable for Americans to know no science, even though they may be well educated otherwise, that they so easily fall prey to nonsense. They thus become part of the armies of the night, the purveyors of nitwittery, the retailers of intellectual junk food, the feeders on mental cardboard, for their ignorance keeps them from distinguishing nectar from sewage. — Isaac Asimov

Re: LASIK before shtf?
If you get the "cheap" version of Lasik then YES there is a fair chance that you WILL have night vision problems (I think I read once that it was 10-15%).

The more expensive and extensive version (the type done to CORRECT Lasik surgery gone bad) has a MUCH lower rate of problems (which is why it is used to CORRECT Lasik surgery gone bad) ... but it is 3x to 4x more expensive the last time I checked, and MOST centers do NOT have the machines that do this better level of work (check around as to who does CORRECTIVE surgery for Lasik gone bad ... and THAT is the person/clinic to talk to - usually there is ONE surgeon per mid size city who does that kind of HIGH LEVEL work, and ONLY ONE)

I am thinking about the same thing, though I do wear extended wear contact lenses that do the same thing and have found that although they are 30 day lenses I can EASILY get 90 days out of a pair in a pinch if I clean them for the protein build up every 2 to 3 weeks or so. (which means a years supply could last 3 years)

The night problem is a REAL problem. I know two airline pilots that HAD to retire early because of Lasik gone bad wrt the night vision issue ... plus about 3 other people who have the night vision problem after Lasik really bad.

Good luck on your decision

Why are there dry eyes? Do they burn the tear ducts?
