Dr. Astro: what object could be this, seen from Volcan Turrialba?
[link to www.youtube.com]

I'd like just to know what object could be this? I thought maybe it was Venus, Jupiter, but doing a little search with some astronomical software, that can't be...so what is it?

Thanks

Wrong. Neddy Flanders of Australia first documented these same objects in his you tube vids last year.

Shills in full effect...I won't take time to argue Flanders' intent OR data, just stay with the object in question and let's see where that goes.

According to that team working there, it's discarded any sundog, rare reflection, or any of that kind effect, so it makes me wonder, what celestial object could be it?

Any scientific contribution or sound knowledge about it, would be highly appreciated.

And to answer the OP's question, it's a lens flare, it appears in front of clouds as long as the sun is unobscured:

I don't profess to be an expert about anything celestial--but I watched the whole video, and the lens flare aspect was specifically addressed. To all the naysayers: please expound on how this video didn't adequately address the lens flare possibility? Did anyone playing the "lens flare" card even take the time to watch OP's video in its entireity?

I'm not going to watch the entire video, I don't have to. It IS a lens flare regardless of their excuses to the contrary. It appears in front of the clouds when the sun is unobscured and it always appears in a straight line with the other elements of the flare which in turn point back to the sun. "Moving with the ecliptic" and "intensity doesn't decrease as the light source moves" is all bullshit which has nothing to do with it being or not being a lens flare.

Jesus there are some nutters out there.

Some nutters in here too.

Why would someone waste time on one shitty web cam next to a hole spewing out dust and sulphur all day long pointed straight at the sun.

He'll see an apparition of Mother Mary on his toast tomorrow morning.

So the concensus here is: I didn't watch the video, but it is definitely lens flare? Skepticism/naysaying without proper review leaves a lot to be desired.

I am not going to waste an hour watching a video when I already know the answer. It is a lens flare. That is confirmed by its nature. I don't care what some idiot says. There are hours upon hours worth of videos on youtube stating that CW Leonis in google sky is "nibiru" or "planet X." Do I need to watch all those videos before forming my own conclusion? No. I can think for myself and do my own proper critical analysis, thank you. If you think there is a compelling reason to think otherwise, state it. Handwaving to a video is not thinking for yourself.

Fair enough. As stated, I don't proclaim to have any expertise in this area--I just thought the video did a fair job of analysing many of the common debunking points like: photoshop; lens flare; the moon; venus, etc. I guess to us "amateur" viewers the apparently "well made" videos are just non-sense to so-called experts?

Yes, it's absolute nonsense. They make themselves sound authoritative, but they're really just setting up strawmen arguments and in reality it's just a lens flare.

Of course it moves, the sun moves. The lens flare moves in such a way that other parts of the flare that it is perfectly in line with always point back to the sun.

I don't know either way - I've done no research at all. But, how does a lens flare in front of a cloud prove that it's the same object\lens flare that was originally photographed?
