Vatican denounces reports that Pope quit over gay sex scandal

Pope Benedict reportedly learned of a secret gay conclave at the Vatican on Dec. 17, the same day he decided to resign. The Vatican insisted the reports are false, and simply an attempt to influence the next pope's election.

The Observer reported that the three priests and one former priest - from the diocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh - complained to the Pope's representative to Britain, nuncio Antonio Mennini, in the week before 11 February, when Pope Benedict announced his resignation, of what they claimed was the cardinal's inappropriate behaviour towards them in the 1980s.

How many scandals can a Papacy take. Cardinal o'brian is the head of the church in the UK and a curser of homosexuality which he despises. Just last year he was named bigot of the year for his refusal to accept same sex marriage. Now he is accused by 4 priest to have made sexual advances towards them while studying to become clergymen.

Surely this has something to do with the Pope's resignation when it came to his knowledge just days before he resigned and to the public's straight after his resignation.

And now since we are at GLP we should look at this from another point of view. According to the church all this rumours of depravation and economic mismanagement are attempts to influence the result of the Conclave.
As a direct result of this accusations Cardinal O'brien will not be part of the Conclave which will mean the UK church will have no say on whom will be the next Pope. Cardinal O'brien could be considered a conservative member of the Conclave and his vote wouldn't have gone to a candidate who was a reformer. He is of the ilk of the salient Pope, steady as it goes. Surely he wouldn't have voted for a non-European as next Pope when a said non-European I mean westerner.

This is the Conclave that is meant to choose Peter the Roman the last Pope, the false prophet, the shepherd that will witness the destruction of the Rome and the church. Evil might be working behind the scenes and then again it might all be bullshit.

Still interesting times and a process well worth keeping an eye on.

Vatican says Vatileaks report to remain confidential

The Vatican said on Monday that a report into papal documents leaked by Pope Benedict's butler in the so-called "Vatileaks scandal" last year will remain confidential and only be shown to the next pontiff.

"The Holy Father has decided that the facts of this investigation, the contents of which are known only to Himself, will be made available exclusively to the new Pontiff," the Vatican said in a statement.

The Vatican said they would investigate the accusations, but it's not known if they will drop the matter now that Pope Benedict XVI has accepted O'Brien's resignation. He would have retired in a few weeks anyway, when he turns 75, but his participation in the selection of the next pope would have been the cap on a long and successful career. According to the Vatican, he could still participate in the conclave, since he is technically still a Cardinal, but since the resignation is meant to avert controversy, he won't be going to Rome.

Pope Benedict's resignation takes effect on Thursday. The Catholic Church of Scotland released a statement from O'Brien, which is posted below.
