Danbury Hospital has a dedicated pediatric trauma room in the Emergency Department, Begg said. The doctors and nurses who are called in to treat trauma cases all have pediatric trauma training. Interesting how that's left out of the quote from the original post: “To the families of those who lost loved ones,” he said, his voice breaking, “on behalf of the ER, we tried our best.”And to you lawmakers … please, make the right decision on the behalf of Newtown and Connecticut, and the United States.”" |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 18260563 ![]() 02/27/2013 07:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Things like this irritate me immensely. It happened to them with an "assault weapon" so now they are bad for everybody. They are the most commonly used competitive rifle in the this country. They are the most commonly used recreational rifle. And quickly, they are becoming a hot hunting firearm. So lets ban AR-15's and all they're varients. It sounds bad, and cruel, but 20 kids with an "assault weapon" used in their death versus how many thousands each year that die from STOLEN WEAPONS. Focus on the real problem here people. And of all the people I know that shoot (100's, maybe thousands), only one owns a Slide Fire Stock. Guess what, they work, but they are cheesy as fuck and not nearly as accurate as one makes them out to be. Gimmicky. No different than the cranks from the 80's and 90's that make any Semi-Auto like a Gattling Gun. No one ever wanted to ban them though - because AR's had yet to explode in popularity. That and the internet slowed the spread of information. |

A whopping 2-3 people were sent to hospitals, if that. Didn't have to try all that hard to save any lives, now did they? Nobody went into the school and attempted to save lives...except for...one person wheeling a stretcher up the road to the school that probably took half an hour just to get through all of the traffic. Sickening. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 5366990 ![]() 02/27/2013 09:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From Quoting: Gladio [link to blog.ctnews.com] "The Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s hearing on the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 opened solemnly, before a packed hearing room, many of the observers gun-violence victims and law-enforcement personnel from gun-tragedy locations. Feinstein, flanked by a photo of the 26 Newtown victims, opened with a pointed reference to Newtown and the growing number of mass-casualty events over the past decade. While Feinstein’s tone was dispassionate, her words about the urgent need for an assault weapons ban were certainly emphatic: “It is clear we need a national solution,” she said. She showed a SlideFire Solutions Inc. promotional video of their product, which turns a semiautomatic rifle into a near-machine gun. And she stressed that a ban on high-capacity magazines was a “crucial” part of the bill." Later in the piece: "The second Newtown witness. Dr. William Begg, EMS Medical Director at Danbury Hospital and a Newtown resident, said he was at the hearing for one reason: My goal is to tell you that banning assault weapons will make a real difference.” “What galls me,” Dr. Begg said, is when people say we should fix mental health before we ban weapons. “What programs get cut first? Mental health!” Begg said. His voice hoarse with emotion, Begg said, that when you say assault weapons account for a small number of gun deaths, “Don’t tell that to the citizens of Newtown!” It produced a burst of applause. “To the families of those who lost loved ones,” he said, his voice breaking, “on behalf of the ER, we tried our best.”And to you lawmakers … please, make the right decision on the behalf of Newtown and Connecticut, and the United States.”" I only know of one victim that was transported to Danbury Hospital. From the Connecticut Post: "The ambulance is racing down Interstate 84 to Danbury Hospital. The crew administers trauma care to make sure the child is breathing and she has circulation. Dahlmeyer is on her feet, shifting around and administering treatment. They pull into the hospital and back up to the doors. Police and security are everywhere, waiting. The little girl's body is placed on a backboard and then over to the hospital's stretcher. The paramedic gives the hospital team a quick report. Inside, the hallway is lined with people, many of them sobbing. Nurses, technicians, doctors, X-ray, I'm not sure who they all are but the whole hallway is filled. The hospital has mobilized about 80 medical personnel, enough to staff four emergency rooms and six operating rooms. Are there more victims? There must be more? The ambulance heads back to Newtown. Dahlmeyer rides in the back with the paramedic. They don't talk about what's gone on. She calls Walgreens, where she works, to say she won't make it in for her noon shift. The little girl she and her crew rushed to the hospital is pronounced dead."Read more: [link to www.newstimes.com] Dr. Begg is shamelessly shilling for a political agenda. Feinstein is right, a sawed off shotgun makes it an assault rifle. |
