He must be a bit silly to let you spread sawdust all over his house if he's allergic to sawdust.

There made in China as I just looked on one of the drills. When you have guys that work for you that dont give a shit because its not their tools thats why I bought these. I am suprised at how well they are made. The company has a great return policy and its more powerful than a standard bulldog as they have a 6.9 Amp motor this one is 7.3 amp.
Plus you have to consider were my guys work. Sometimes we do projects in a main city and theft happens from the curb to the door of the job (happened more than once - one time they got a $700.00 Bosch masons Chop saw). If they steal one of these I dont cry so much !

Overall a steal of a buy !
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34837866

And just how many America jobs did that "steal of a buy" cost again???
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19656845

You are complaining. You sound like a lazy union crybaby protectionist. Get off your lazy ass and do something brah !

Did you send in you dues payment this month ?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34837866

I have had to many of the Boschs' stolen. I can't support the criminals like your liberal ass does as I explain why I bought these above. They are a kick ass tool for the money. If you can't accept that, then start your own business and buy all Milwaukee and Bosch tools. But dont cry if the shit gets ripped off from guys like yourself that dont give a shit because they are not your tools.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34837866

Here's a Tip for ya skippy, make you guys supply their own tools...or stop being cheap hire some trustworthy help and not the "jump in the back of the pickup truck" gang outside the Home Depot

Nah man I'm a tradesman myself, just sick of people like you who complain about the downfall of America then run right to "Harbor Freight"...it's sad really
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19656845

You may be a tradesman and pay your dues on time but the unions are why the costs of most tools assembled in America are way to expensive. You dont own a business so you really dont know what the overhead or costs are of running a business. Build a business and then come back here and you may have a leg to stand on. I have built a business (with over $10 million in sales) and I am a union shop you smuck. I have to be union based on the location, I work in. So fuck off and do some work you lazy doughnut eatin liberal/

It's unreasonable.

The job was not yet completed.

Anyway I have contacted the local newspaper and TV stations, RCMP HQ and BC Civil Liberties Union.

Re: UPDATE: RCMP cop agrees to pay $700 for "free floor installation". VICTORY!!
My company performed $1500 work for RCMP officer Brian Naxxxx. Brian and his wife held payment so they could assess the cost to clean up their house of all sawdust as he is allergic to dust.

I offered to have his entire duct system cleaned, his dry cleaning paid for and a maid service, which all came to $750.. he said no.

He called a restoration company and charged me $1100.00 in cleaning, $250 in a total-home duct cleaning and $200 dry-cleaning for his uniforms that got dust on them. We now owe this RCMP cop $50 according to him. When I said that he was being completely unfair and totally unreasonable and I told him my company would have to lien his house, he threatened to "destroy me". RCMP cop... real nice guy, just ripped us
off for $1500 and got a free floor installation.

You think you fared badly?

Back in around 2000 a Polish WWII veteran was defrauded by an RCMP policeman of a few hundred thousand dollars worth in real estate property.

That was in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.

The victim passed away a some time ago.

Later on in 2007 a Polish guy was murdered by four RCMP policeman at the YVR airport in Richmond. Kind of makes you wonder if there was some connection between the two incidents (same cop?).

I just revied the photos, one more time and the OP doesn't have a leg to stand on. If you look at the pile of sawdust in that elcove or closet he surely didn't cut the flooring in the garage. I see rip cuts from the flooring lengthwise. I can tell because engineered flooring rips stay as strips and the cuts are visable here too. The OP even has a dustpan next to that pile of debris that gives you a chance to scale it. OP let this go, as you will only cause pain for yourself. $1500.00 is nothing, as I will admit to losing 100 times that amount because of inexperienced bidders or bad quantity takeoffs. Those pictures tell the whole story.

I appreciate everyone's input on both sides of the issue.

I still feel that my offer (-$800) was a very reasonable fix resulting in a loss of 50% labour. I did offer to have it professionally dealt with, but the client felt unsatisfied.

The employee has been reprimanded.

My questions would be:

Why did the client not have an issue with cutting inside until the 4th day and 80% of the work had been completed?

Why does the restoration quote almost match the price of the balance owed?

Why does someone who has a dust allergy not mention it until the 4th day?

Why was I told "I'll destroy you" when I suggested court mediation?

Why have I already had a lawyer contact me and why is this lawyer the sister of the cop?

1) A customer will always look to offset the cost of construction with your mistakes. The pictures showed a total disregard for "your" customers personal property.
It is your duty to protect his property while you carry out your work wether it is written are not as it's called "due care"

2) It is your duty and his obligation to give you reciepts for that restoration work he had completed. Tell him to "please" (be professional)give you the reciepts as you can now write off the loss total. With reciepts and restoration it would be 3K. If you take 3K x 33% (a 33% typical tax rate for a business with no loss carry forwards) that tax write off is worth $900.00 (cash to you) you then almost recoup your costs. (This is the way to go OP as I would like to see you take lemons and make lemonade out of this bad situation) Take my advice because it is the best advice.

3) Number 1 he never agreed to nor you agreed to mediation before work began. On top of that you dont have a contract that says that. Just because you think it's the best course of action he does not have to agree to it (common contract law) Second the $1500.00 value of the job would only be recoverable in small claims court. No one was damaged except for him by the actions of your employee. Tread lightly as he could sue you in small claims for more damages above and beyond the $1500.00 it cost him to recover, from the damage your employee caused.

4) His sister doesn't cost him anything to call you. Just because she is his sister there is no conflict of interest because there is no lien, case or claim............yet.

Drop it OP. Trust me as I have been contracting for 30 years. Those pictures would bury you in any court or mediation.....................any !

Never cut lumber, wood, particle board, logs, 2x4s, doors, windows, flooring or laminate in a house unless the house is under full renovation and no furnishings or clothing or people living within.

You should of taped off a plastic enclosed area with sheeting where sawing was to occur. Specificaly the room the work was being done in

AT least get the cost paid for material.
