In southern Italy slumbers under the "Campi Flegrei" a mighty volcano. For months, the pressure below the 150 square kilometer area - the earth bulges up. Researchers are trying to determine what is happening in the depths.
For a super-volcano, the area west of Naples looks quite unassuming. No conspicuous mountain peak soars - as opposed to Vesuvius on the other side of the metropolis. But authorities less concern this mountain, which in 79 buried the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum under a thick layer of ash and rock. Rather eighth civil defense being reinforced on the 150 square kilometer, flatter area, the Greek settlers once the name "Campi Flegrei" gave: burning fields.

The name fits: In many places columns of steam rise up from crevices, rocks are colored reddish-yellow, bubbles bubbling pools in front of him, and the stench of rotten eggs permeates the air. It's bubbling under the surface and the ground rises and falls on a regular basis. In the nearby port town of Pozzuoli bear the pillars of the ancient Temple of Serapis traces of seashells - they were a long time under water, after the ground had subsided. "The system seems to breathe," says Thomas Wiersberg by the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, the escaping gases in the area analyzed.

"Such an outbreak would be a problem for all of Europe"
Under the steaming surface slumbers a mighty volcano - one of world's few dozen so-called super volcanoes. "Super volcanoes are one Explosivitätsindex the highest level 8," explains Wiersberg. This means that during an outbreak, they would throw out more than 1000 cubic kilometers of material. Famous example of the volcano beneath Yellowstone National Park in the U.S., more than two million years ago spewed more than 2000 cubic kilometers of material. Strictly speaking, the Phlegraean not deserve the term supervolcano. That on a massive eruption about 37,000 years ago, the volcano spat "only" a maximum of 350 cubic kilometers. "The explosion must have been enormous. Today would have been such an outbreak is a problem for all of Europe, "says Wiersberg.

1) it just exploded VEI8 once in 39000 years and other and other eruptions (except another VEI7+ 15.000y ago) was far less powerful and dangerous

2) next eruption is expected by scientists max VEI6 so not a global disaster

3) actually the uplift is completely stopped since about 1 month and also other phenomenas are decreasing so there aren't risks at all of an imminent eruptions at moment

perhaps the uplift has stopped because it can't go any further?

in this video you can see the columns of Serapide's temple, an ancient structure that was completely underwater before 1970. They show that there is a darker zone full of holes because it was under sea water before the 70 crisis and that zone was full of molluscs on it causing the holes... after the 70 and 80 crisis the caldera started to downlift but still the temple is out of the water. these areas on columns are the proofs that the zone went up and down lot of times in last 2000 years and that the entire zone is still several meters up the level before 1970...

steam vents in last months have sound similar to jet engines and are so luoud that is impossible to go close to them without protections for ears!
Temperature went up to 115°C from 95°C...

even a vei6 will devastate that part of Europe, and probably create an economic meltdown leading to ww3

how many more blows do you think a man on his knees, both eyes closed from cuts, can take?

115°C from 95°C? increased sound? NO good!
It would be interesting to know other parameters there...
