The pope's middle name is MARIO, not Pietro.

Francis of Assisi is DEAD, so he is INELIGIBLE to be pope!!!!

New Pope choose name after Francis of Assisi. His middle name was Peter. And yes he is the first Jesuit, not a good thing. They are also considered Black Pope

Although both Francis of Assisi and Francis Xavier could have inspired the new pope in selecting his name for posterity, it was more likely the Italian friar who was the main inspiration, said Monsignor Raymond J. Kupke, a professor of church history at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

"He was a man of great simplicity, down to earth, a man of the people," Kupke said. "Also Francis of Assisi spearheaded a great evangelization movement of the 13th century. He embraced a new way of being religious in the world."

Francis of Assisi, born 1181, died 1226, founded the Franciscan Order. [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Francis Xavier, born 1506, died 1552, co-founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Society of Jesus (Jesuits) was formed in 1540, so probably not by Francis of Assisi who was already dead for over 300 years. [link to en.wikipedia.org]

Re: Pope Francis middle name means Peter
This is too much of a stretch, OP.

Saint Francis is the namesake. His first name alone was chosen.
As the pope did not select two names, he is only Francis.

Also, Assisi is not Rome.

You're making up too much. It doesn't work.

But the Jesuit thing is a closer match. It is a way of having the euphemism of "black pope" actually apply.

If you were Catholic you would totally understand, believe it or not there is a rivalry I cannot explain between religious orders in the church, the new pope is Jesuit he would not pick a Franciscan . huffy

Re: Pope Francis middle name means Peter
St. Francis of Assisi also had a father named Pietro

St. Francis of Assisi
Francis of Assisi was one of seven children born to Pietro di Bernardone, a rich cloth merchant, and his wife Pica, about whom little is known except that she was originally from Provence, France.[10] Pietro was in France on business when Francis was born, and Pica had him baptised as Giovanni di Bernardone.

Well, if you wanted to know which direction the new pope is going to take the church, there it is in bold, all spelled out for us.

Get ready for a brand new "Catholicism Wow!" campaign.

Banned as usual.

“It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.”
