Yeah why is that so bizarre that the whole family were sleeping on their stomachs?

Well nah actually most people end up sleeping on their stomachs once they are asleep. i dont know of one person that sleeps with their face smashed into a pillow, let alone an entire family sleeping face down with their noses down.
