Re: Interest Rate Hike Tomorrow?
The government here just forced Manulife Financial to raise its rates (they said it was too low, and they didnt want the lenders to do a race to the bottom).

So much for a free market.

Isnt that called Communism when a government tells a independent company what to do?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3937774

THIS/\ \saw it on the news tonight, made me raise my eyebrow. Canada's finance minister told them they couldn't offer the rate they wanted to. Something is up.?.?.?

.

As I posted previously... the housing bubble
was created by the Fed by lowering rates and
the bubble was burst by the Fed by raising rates.

The Fed fund rate impacts mortgage rates.

The housing bubble began in 2002-2004,after the Fed had repeatedly lowered rates.

[see link below]

2003 - the Fed lowered rates to 1%, the lowest in 45 years.

2003 - President Bush signs the "American Dream Act."

2004 - homeownership peaked to an all time high.

2004 - Fed begins an ever increasing rise in rates.

2005 - bubble begins to burst while the Fed kept raising rates.

2006 - bubble bursts while the Fed kept raising rates which remained high until late 2007.

Re: Interest Rate Hike Tomorrow?
None of my friends in Banking have heard anything about a rise in Interest Rates...though I did get wind that Bank of America and J.P. Morgan are skating on thin ice right now and some big players have recently pulled their money out of these institutions...

Re: Interest Rate Hike Tomorrow?
...I got a pretty panicked call from one of my investors, a large West Coast wholesale lender, about an hour ago imploring me to lock all of my loans immediately..
 Quoting: ReVbo™

That most likely says it all...
HIS company (wholesale Lender) must raise HIS rates cause HE is in trouble! (doing you are professional courtesy favor)
Or,
He wants you to LOCK as he will lose margin when they go lower.

Also... many homeowners are still underwater.

The Dutch never looked at tulips the same way again.

" At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs
sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman.
It is generally considered the first recorded speculative bubble... "

Re: Interest Rate Hike Tomorrow?
maybe not tomorrow, let europe melt first and then worry about interest rate, as long as people confidence in bank not deteriorating no chance of increasing interest rate, increasing interest rate with last inflation data will blow up that inflation data is wrong and make inflation rate goes up
