Tarot (runes, cards etc) interpretation and discussion. No readings!
Just starting a thread...please don't post if this isn't a topic you approve of, don't reply to those who do.

I'm going to add to this first post as I can...

In a way one of the things learning tarot is good for is to learn "focus" see this thread Thread: mediums. trying to get in touch with someone..

I think it's how I learned to focus other skills I was probably born with. By learning to focus, you can learn to "not hear" other things, and hear the still small voice.

A place to learn the cards free is here [link to www.learntarot.com]

Again, I'm going to add to this first post off and on. Not feeling real great today.

As soon as I'm able to, I'm going to post a quick guide to reading cards. (Out of my head) Which is what I go by when I read cards. Combination of a lot of books and study. Tarot can also be used to REPRESENT things you want to draw into you life. But it doesn't have to be limited to cards, you can have an object represent your desired goal, and put it in a place that you frequent in the house, so that each time you pass it you're reminded of your goal. It will help keep you focused. Say you want to move to a nicer house. Find something like maybe a small replica that sort of looks like desired house. Place it in a place that you pass a lot and even if you aren't consciously seeing it your unconscious reinforces the goal.

Edit: DON'T REPLY TO PEOPLE WHO POST STUPID STUFF. I WILL CLEAN UP THE THREAD AND KEEP IT CLEAN.

So I have a question. I'm pulling cards right now about something and a car is coming up that doesn't come up often for me, and when it does I interpret the right side up the same as the upside down.

I was wondering interpretations on TEMPERANCE upright as well as reversed. I know what the "books" say, but the question goes out to EXPERIENCED card readers.

Same question about STAR.

I'm a little fuzzy on both of those.

Hi Ceelite. hf

I was at one time a master tarotologist through the Connolly method.

I no longer read, and when I did, I was more interested in the symbolism and origins of the symbols than forecasting.

I no longer have my decks, I burned them, however if there are any questions on interpretations of a symbolic nature, I'll do my best to answer from what I know.

Temperance reversed in its base form would mean lack of self-control/excess, related to not being in balance, almost like a bi-polar type of swing.

Star reversed could mean depression, lack of hope, despair manifesting in bodily illness.

Upright, Temperance could mean physically being in balance, integration of spiritual/physical, avoiding excesses and achieving bodily peace.

Star upright has to do with faith and spiritual hope, spiritual love, being well cared-for and protected, humility and being humble.

Re: Tarot (runes, cards etc) interpretation and discussion. No readings!
I'd be interested to see favorite decks for people on this thread, as I do think it contributes to interpretation, sometimes.

My main deck and favorite was the Medieval Scapini deck, I had it for about 15 years.

Other favorites were the Salvador Dali deck, which I had, for the artwork. I liked the HR Giger one too for those reasons, but it was too dark for me and was only majors, much more of an art deck than one for practical use or study. Sacred Circle deck was nice, I thought some of the depictions were pretty. My ex-husband had the Thoth deck, I never jived with that one, and did not like readings done with it. But, to each, their own.

I saw a deck in a store once that really intrigued me. I was in a hurry and didn't get the name. It was an ornate Art Noveau - Russian sort of design, with gold colored gilded edges. A beautiful deck of cards and I wish I had bought it.

Only one that comes to mind for me somewhat like that may be the St. Petersburg deck, but that's an older deck, not sure if newer decks out there. There really are some beautiful cards/decks with artwork.

Re: Tarot (runes, cards etc) interpretation and discussion. No readings!
Thank you, CeeLite, for the thread.
I have only a little experience with Tarot. I do see that some might be put off as the Age of Reason has pushed us away from our unconscious/superconscious.
There was a discussion of types of decks preferred. I would use the Waite deck only as it is the most common. Therefore the images are stronger in the group mind.

The tarot is classical in that it has stood the test of time. I want to mention a book closely related to tarot that has also stood the test of time. First let me mention two other classic books on very different subjects to get the gist of what I am trying to say.
The first is on drawing. ‘The Natural Way to Draw’ by Nicolaides will never go out of print. It will always be in use.
The second is on acting. “The Actor Prepares” by Stanislavski is the standard text. It was written in the 1800s and will never go out of print.

Here is the classic book that helps me with tarot: ‘Mystical Qabalah’ by Dion Fortune:
[link to www.amazon.com]

Small bookstores can no longer survive. It seems only large chains such as Barns and Nobel survives. They only stock books that are known to sell. You will always find a copy of Mystical Qabalah in stock. It was written in the 1930s and never goes out of print. It is now in public domain so is published by many publishers.

Had her deck for a while, I think her son did the artwork. It's a pretty deck, not quite pastel colors, pretty good vibe, but I didn't bond with it too well at the time.

She has some really great books, mostly hinging on interpretation and the Celtic Cross spread, but getting into other areas and tying in several different aspects, including numerology and other knowledge bases. The Apprentice volume is the most popular, and it does have some good info for basic card meanings and beginning Celtic Cross reading info, plus how to delineate a date using the Ace cards.

Journeyman volume goes more into the court cards, and card interrelationships, plus more involved readings.

Master volume goes more into the Minors and advanced interpretations for those, as well as more complex spreads. I think Rahdue's Wheel is in there, but I can't remember...may be in Apprentice or Journeyman. That is an epic spread, uses all the cards in the deck. Master volume also goes into the Malkuthian Key spreads, which are also complex, and require two working decks to lay out. They also can utilize a lot of cards, depending on how many Majors show up in an original Celtic Cross reading.

She also wrote books on Numerology, Karma, and how to develop psychic powers. I have those, but they're not easy to find, sometimes.

I'm sorry if I'm babbling, just trying to remember things off of the top of my head. hf

P.S. - Hope you find your ring, Acula!! afro

Majors do take some time to fully grasp, they would seem to be easy, at first, but they are much deeper cards to "get" as opposed to the Minors. The Minors are pretty straightforward, and in my thinking have to do with mundane, day-to-day concerns, whereas, the Majors have much more to deal with spiritual lessons and states, and spiritual progression. They stand on their own as a life-journey, but much more from a spiritual standpoint.

I found they could be so confusing because of nuances to them, and if one reads using upright and reversed interpretations, an upright meaning for one card can seem to be generally the same as reversed meaning for another. But, it's involved, as you know, and depends on the context within a spread, and the deck connection, as you said. hf

If you have some trouble with the Majors, might be worth laying them out in a line and reading them like a story, each card a page or chapter, sometimes helps to pinpoint personal meaning.

And in addition to personal life-journey, the Majors can be seen as a world spiritual progression, an even greater shared journey.
