cnn propaganda piece about Disney (a lesson in cognitive dissonance as psy ops)
just checking to see what cnn is reporting on and the main headline is this:

TO DISNEY OR NOT TO DISNEY

this is such an outright propaganda piece!
i do not even know where to begin to start.

so here is the link:
[link to www.cnn.com]

quotes of cognative dissonant goodness:

"For many travelers, especially those with children, it's not even a question they ask. They already know the answer.
"Yes."

"But for other vacationers, Disney inspires a firm "no."

"That's the Rev. J.C. Mitchell, who will be heading to Orlando, Florida, this year for a work conference but will not be taking his family with him, even though his job will cover most of the costs of his trip. "We do not enjoy Disney," wrote Mitchell, who went to Disney World as a child, via e-mail. "We believe it symbolically represents the excesses of our extremely individualistic society."

"People like Disney. It ranked as the third most well-regarded company--behind only Amazon.com and Apple--in a recent Harris Interactive survey of people's opinions of the most visible companies' reputations."

"Whatever people think about Disney, it's probably what they're also thinking about American society and its values, said Manchester University sociologist Robert Pettit.
"Disney does such a wonderful job of representing American culture, they're almost synonymous with America," said Pettit, who teaches a three-week course, "Disney and American Culture," that includes a Disney World site visit. "They are master storytellers, and they have the narrative business down pat."

And behind the magic, "Disney is a capitalistic corporation bent on consumerism, and that's what drives our economy," he said. "It brings out people's opinions about our society and culture in general. You can love them or be very critical of those aspects of our culture and society because it portrays them so well."

Why Disney might want to 'Escape From Tomorrow'
(this is a link they put up called that right here)

Disney is magic for Edward and Harriett Yu of Los Altos, California. The Yu family and their two daughters have happily visited Disney theme parks about every two years, and the family has sailed on two Disney cruises. Edward Yu even booked a family reunion on one of the cruises last year, reserving 10 cabins for his extended family two years in advance.
"For us as parents, it's a chance to connect back to our own childhood and brings back happy memories," wrote Yu in an e-mail. "Now that we have kids, it's priceless to see their reactions as they experience the parks/rides/shows for their first time. Words can't describe the preciousness of seeing our little ones thoroughly enjoying themselves on Disney attractions."
Because it's Disney, "we know we can expect top-notch entertainment each time we go," wrote Yu, 46. "And there is an expectation that guests behave properly, which I appreciate."

"For Lindsay Potts and her family, a good vacation is spending time with their extended family, outdoors and in nature. Potts hasn't ever visited any Disney parks but she says that paying lots of money to stand in line for "fast-paced, high-pressure" entertainment isn't for her. (Her husband visited Disneyland and Disney World as a child.)
She also doesn't want to support Disney.
"Spending hundreds of dollars to wait in lines and be surrounded by consumerism does not appeal to us," wrote Potts, who lives in Brownstown, Indiana. "Disney is a brand and also portrays a certain lifestyle that aligns with current corporate American culture.
"We have chosen to live a more alternative life style that is rooted in sustainability, equality and entertainment that is independent of television and popular media."

"Alissa Guntren of Bloomington, Indiana, went to Disney World in Florida as a child, but she won't be taking her daughters to Disney theme parks either. No matter how far Disney's princess stories have come, she doesn't want her daughters limiting themselves.
"While I am not averse to my daughters exploring fantasy worlds, I find that Disney and Disney products present children, especially girls, with a very limited fantasy world -- one in which a prince will sweep them off their feet so that they can then live happily ever after," wrote Guntren in an e-mail. "I want my daughters to be confident as individuals, not to grow up thinking there is a prince out there waiting to save them."
"In addition, I have a difficult time with the princess body types that Disney presents children with, which is an idealized adult female body type and not an appropriate one for my young and impressionable children to try to emulate."

"Parents can do everything in our power to limit our children's access to the Disney Industrial Complex, but even when we limit it, they'll find other ways to watch the shows, sing the songs and be involved with Disney-something-or-another. We choose to enjoy it together as a family in small doses, which seems reasonable."

----

just god.
look at that.
go there read the whole thing.
it's incredible.
it could be take out of some sort of weird chinese communist magazine from the 1960s or something.
it's just so damned weird.
those quotes don't come from actual people. NOBODY talks like that.

and THIS ss the MAIN HEADLINE on CNN above and beyond ALL ELSE going on in the world right now.

and you in the USA still think we are not behind a WALL?

Just a heads-up, I'm going to Disney in a couple weeks. Plan on letting the daughters get all dressed up, ride whatever rides they want, have all sorts of meals with characters, etc...

When society inevitably collapses into chaos and the hordes of cannibals are chasing you, you now know who to blame- me and my terrible decision to enjoy Disney World.

As my daughters inevitably turn out to be complete sociopaths who unleash chemical, biological, nuclear, or other plagues upon this earth, we'll now understand why- I let them dress up like Arial.

Remember my daughter's love of Princess Jasmine as you are lying on your back in the street, broken and twisted staring into the cold, uncaring, glowing eyes of a killer robot. In the fleeting moments left of your life, as you stare down the barrel of its plasma rifle waiting for the sickly green flash that will end your existence, die weeping for all humanity knowing it was all so avoidable- if only I had made a better decision to not go to Disney!

Now if you'll all excuse me, I have a reservation to make for Cinderella's Royal Table for my daughter. We're having brunch. It begins...

Now I am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.

here's another peculiar comment:

I actually feel that Disney has become very aware of their position of responsibility in helping to form young impressionable minds. Take the latest offering "Wreck-It Ralph": the "princess" is a totally BA commando in a first person shooter video game world being taken over by insatiable robotic bugs and leads a crack team of elite killers to fight them. Her "prince charming" is a short carpenter armed with nothing but a magic hammer and the "honey dew" glow he gets when she yells at her subordinates! Disney knows just how exposed they are and how much influence they have over kids even when parents try to keep the two apart. At least Disney has tried to follow Walt's vision by stepping up to meet the challenge.

Re: cnn propaganda piece about Disney (a lesson in cognitive dissonance as psy ops)
here's a GLP community chance to learn about, discern and decontruct propaganda, even when seemingly "silly" (the most insidious kind)

let's learn something here. how to recognize cognitive dissonance when you see it aimed at you:

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

if you want TOOLS , learn how to spot and NEUTRALIZE "cognitive dissonance" from your mind. it is their BEST and most AMBIENT psychological weapon.

In modern psychology, cognitive dissonance is the feeling of discomfort when simultaneously holding two or more conflicting cognitions: ideas, beliefs, values or emotional reactions. In a state of dissonance, people may sometimes feel "disequilibrium": frustration, hunger, dread, guilt, anger, embarrassment, anxiety, etc. [1] The phrase was coined by Leon Festinger in his 1956 book When Prophecy Fails, which chronicled the followers of a UFO cult as reality clashed with their fervent belief in an impending apocalypse.[2][3] Festinger subsequently (1957) published a book called A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance in which he outlines the theory. Cognitive dissonance is one of the most influential and extensively studied theories in social psychology.
The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions, adding new ones to create a consistent belief system, or alternatively by reducing the importance of any one of the dissonant elements.[1] It is the distressing mental state that people feel when they "find themselves doing things that don't fit with what they know, or having opinions that do not fit with other opinions they hold." [4] A key assumption is that people want their expectations to meet reality, creating a sense of equilibrium.[5] Likewise, another assumption is that a person will avoid situations or information sources that give rise to feelings of uneasiness, or dissonance.[1]
Cognitive dissonance theory explains human behavior by positing that people have a bias to seek consonance between their expectations and reality. According to Festinger, people engage in a process he termed "dissonance reduction", which can be achieved in one of three ways: lowering the importance of one of the discordant factors, adding consonant elements, or changing one of the dissonant factors.[6] This bias sheds light on otherwise puzzling, irrational, and even destructive behavior.

FWIW my wife proposed going to Disneyworld for spring break next week, and I said no. This was several days ago.

I don't like the "vibe" in Orlando FL generally. And Disney is hella expensive. Cape Canaveral and the space coast is nice though, about 50 miles to the east.

for those interested:

Modeling in neural networks

Neural network models of cognition have provided the necessary framework to integrate the empirical research done on cognitive dissonance and attitudes into one model of explanation of attitude formation and change.[64]
Various neural network models have been developed to predict how cognitive dissonance will influence an individual's attitude and behavior. These include:
Parallel Constraint Satisfaction Processes[64]
The Meta-Cognitive Model (MCM) of attitudes[65]
Adaptive connectionist model of cognitive dissonance[66]
Attitudes as constraint satisfaction model[67]

Jeez. What is with posters, now even a moderator, who can't take it when a thread does not instantly get dozens of responses.

This post to me is 5,p material! I agree with your reaction- it is outrageous, and for this to be the #1 main headline on cnn.com is just crazy.

But, I think the headline is actually enticing fodder for those who have begun to become awake and aware, and have begun to question the msm and the govt. So, what should the msm do then? PRETEND to actually debunk some things, make it SEEM as if the msm is doing real investigative journalism, etc. (While of course, controlling the entire dialogue and still implanting ideas in the reader/viewer/listeners' mind.)

For example, the article argues for the Disney-manipulative side of the argument, that Disney is "consumeristic".....but then instantly notes, "-which drives our economy."

Planting ideas that if you are against consumerism, you are anti-jobs. AKA, against the middle class. AKA, Disney being manipulative is a good thing, since it provides jobs for people like you and me. AKA, those crazy fucking conspiracy theorists are trying to take food off my table and wreck the whole damn economy!

Computer simulations showed an adequate fit with several classical dissonance paradigms (inhibition, initiation, forced compliance, free choice, & misattribution), as well as novel studies that underscore the role of affect. A comparison with an earlier constraint satisfaction approach (Shultz & Lepper, 1996) indicates that the feedforward implementation provides a similar fit with these shortcomings of this previous model.
