Re: Do you know any successful people who have given up on society?
If I return to work and do my computer consulting I will make about $90 per hour, maybe up to $120 per hour for a service call. I was billing one company 45 hours a week at 90 dollars an hour. I lived in a shared apartment with one person for $600 a month.

I gave that up, for a spiritual journey and helping people, making videos and now I do healings.

Last night I had a great supper mostly that came from a garbage bin outside a store, and yes, I have given upon society as we know it.

Glen Kealey comes to mind. Do you know anyone in your personal life?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24235523

I don't know anyone in my personal life who gave up on society, but was still "successful." I've known a lot of miserable successful people, though, and truly happy people who don't chase a dollar. Not saying a successful person can't be happy, or someone who goes off the beaten path is living in joy every moment. Just my observations. peace

To me, it sounds like your life has indeed gotten better. You are following your heart and ideas. You don't give a shit if people judge you for how you eat or what you do. Let me congratulate you and say that I respect you for living how YOU want to live.

Re: Do you know any successful people who have given up on society?
They will not let you leave, they will torture you.
To be successful you must worship the beast, once you do that you can never leave the system of the devil, it keeps rewarding you and you end up loving the beast.
The clue is to isolate yourself, but you can not do that in western societeies or wherever they worship the beast.
They will traet you worse than an animal just because you want a chance to live without being surrounded by beasts.
Basically if you dont have white skin you can go to Africa where they do not worship beasts and do not follow the beasts religion.
Other than that jungles are good if you are not scared of the insects and stuff.
If you are Muslim there is a good choice of countries where they do not worship beasts (not arab countries they flip flop).
Some carribean islands are good if turists are confined to their hotels.
This is what my research over the years has led me to conclude.
Everywhere else you will encounter beast worshipping people and images of beasts everywhere.

Re: Do you know any successful people who have given up on society?
I've pretty much given up on what's called "society" because it's all a game, run by a select few. My parents were working class, and I grew up watching them go to work every day and working hard. They actually were able to accomplish something though; they raised my brother and me pretty well, in a modest house that they bought and paid for, in a similar working class neighborhood that was safe and fun for us to grow up in. That life, for most, doesn't exist anymore. I work harder than my parents did, for less money, and more bullshit thrown in to boot. Since U.S. jobs have been outsourced (joke of a word; the ptb have just sold all of us down the river for their own benefit). I would dearly love to just give a big skull_fing to the world, live away from people, with my animals, doing and selling crafts, living simply and consuming modestly. I will find a way to do it, before I die. As a member of the end wave of the Boomers, I found that there wasn't much left for a lot of us, and after I graduated high school, that's when the job loss started in earnest. Hopefully I can realize my dream.

Indeed.

Who is John Galt?

/for a book that was written sixty years ago, it is remarkably relevant.
I would prefer not to.

Anyone got their medical insurance increase? I'm with one of the biggest companies out there and rarely make a claim. Mine went up $108 a month. I'm considering living out of my van. Dropping out to a certain extent.

The term "successful" means being a slave to society's expectations...

Re: Do you know any successful people who have given up on society?
Here is the thing: if we were not so stressed, overworked, and overwhelmed we probably would be so healthy we would rarely even need healthcare. Barring accidents and legitimate disease, most of what people have is based on stress and lack of time.

If you had less stress and more time you could:

Eat healthy/cook meals from scratch
Work out
Do the things you love to do
Grow some of your own food
Spend more time with loved ones
Read and learn
Enjoy the beauty and wonder of nature
Volunteer and help others

I guarantee if people had more of the above their overall health (mental, emotional, physical) would improve and doctor visits would plummet.

Yep, a member of my family who retired at 28 due to fantastic wealth. They have completely given up on society and have begun prepping. They think the writing is on the wall and so do most of their contacts in the US who have a lot of wealth themselves.

What's to give up on? Society has always been ugly, well at least in the west.

I won't be part of the 'system'.. I just work hard enough on my own to pay my way, tho' is very hard to keep up with bills all the time. My Aussie Cousin ditched a 100k IT job here in London, couldn't stand it anymore..! so went back to Aussie. I know lots of people who simply gave up, even moving to Spain to work 14 hrs daily, 7 days a week, only to waste it away on drink & charlie. I've decided I'm just gonna have to work my myself in future, people giving up 'fantastic paid' jobs in the Professions. There's a global 'brain' drain kill off!

oh yeah.. just remembered..! met a farmer in Somerset the other day, who was a highly paid Professional, but said he couldn't stand London anymore.. so moved into the middle of a load of country fields with a farm instead, happy as Larry he is..! I plan on moving down to the South Coast of England in a year or two, once I save up enough 1000s to make it happen.
