I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR IF I MEASURED THE COMA [ACCURATELY I MIGHT ADD] ILL SAY SO WHEN I SEE PROOF. Quoting: rphunter FROM THIS ANGLE WE CAN "SEE" THE TAIL FOR SOME TIME YET SO WHAT ASTRO'S LINKS SUGGEST IS TO FILTER THE HEAD ON SHOT FOR ROTATION , AND SEE IT IT SHOWS THE COMA IN RELATION TO THE NUCLEUS ... NASA MADE AN ESTIMATE .. I MEASURED IT .. WE AR STILL EXPLORING FACTS AT THIS TIM Only question is why is doctor astro taking so much care about Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35433037 figthing every comet ison is nibobo thread? why are you using caps all the time? It makes me question your integrety. |
Dr. Astro Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 4211721 United States 04/03/2013 11:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're not measuring the physical nucleus, that is NASA's estimate. The apparent nucleus is not the same as the physical nucleus. Radial gradient filtering is a nice way to reveal the comet's jets, but still is not a direct measurement of the physical nucleus size which is far too small to resolve with an optical telescope. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1006073 Netherlands 04/03/2013 11:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dr. Astro, why is it that after a lot of hype about the size of this comet, it now supposedly turns out to be a lot smaller. If everything can be calculated and after decades of experience with these early estimations, couldn't the scientist have known this? Or at least lower their tone before the comet would get in a range where data like this can be measured more reliable before making such big statements??? |

F that man, I've been telling everyone around me to watch this massive comet. There must be some way to regelate date like this in the media. Why are not all comets overhyped? Why this one? Is there a reliable source for news like this? The first ones that discovered this comet must have said something which the media took off with. The media doesn't make everything up. So where does this go wrong? |

The vast majority of comets don't show initial light curves projecting into naked eye magnitudes at their peaks, let alone brighter than the moon. ISON is a rare one, even if it doesn't live up to the initial projections. Why this one? Is there a reliable source for news like this? Quoting: ACSure, just go to the minor planet center and download the raw data to crunch the numbers for yourself if you want. Software is freely available to do it. [link to www.aerith.net] |

They become meteors when they enter the Earth's atmosphere. Most meteors burn up in the atmosphere, but if they survive the frictional heating and strike the surface of the Earth they are called meteorites. but needs the proof, I mean ...
