US West Coast newborns 30% more likely to be hit with thyroid problems after Fukushima nuclear disaster
Researchers have discovered that the Fukushima nuclear disaster has had far-reaching health effects more drastic than previously thought: young children born on the US West Coast are 28 percent more likely to develop congenital hyperthyroidism.

In examining post-Fukushima conditions along the West Coast, researchers found American-born children to be developing similar conditions that some Europeans acquired after the 1986 meltdown of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

“Fukushima fallout appeared to affect all areas of the US, and was especially large in some, mostly in the western part of the nation,” researchers from the New York-based Radiation and Health Project wrote in a study published by the Open Journal of Pediatrics.

Children born after the 2011 meltdown of Japan’s Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant are at high risk of acquiring congenital hyperthyroidism if they were in the line of fire for radioactive isotopes. Researchers studied concentration levels of radioiodine isotopes (I-131) and congenital hypothyroid cases to make the association.

Just a few days after the meltdown, I-131 concentration levels in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon and Washington were up to 211 times above the normal level, according to the study. At the same time, the number of congenital hypothyroid cases skyrocketed, increasing by an average of 16 percent from March 17 to Dec. 31, 2011. And between March 17 and June 30, shortly after the meltdown, newly born children experienced a 28 percent greater risk of acquiring hyperthyroidism.

Where is the study? What are the original numbers? Percentages are hard to interpret when the incidence is low to begin with and fluctuate over time. Also, rates of hyperthyroidism should be irrelevant b/c radioactive iodine is actually used to treat hyperthyroidism....but could cause HYPOthyroidism.

I cringe knowing so much produce is grown in California.

I don't know how to deal with knowing so many people around me are eating and drinking all this poison.

It affects everyone one of the only things we can do is take Iodine.

It's that most people in the US are deficient in Iodine because of Bromine its in sooo much of our food it blocks our ability to absorb iodine. It's why most americans have messed up thyroids and why thyroid cancer is increasing rapidly. The type of iodine you take is what really matters. Not as an emergency but on a daily basis as part of a routine. From what I've read potassium iodine is the best one to take. Our diet is horrible here & for a country where most people are overweight it's ironic that the root cause is we all have vitamin deficiencies.

Your comment made me laugh! But its sooo true!! I bought kelp and am getting a thyroid herbal blend which contains potassium iodine from iherb. I want to get spirolina and try the benotite!! Now we have to be super careful buying kelp pills because the kelp is radioactive in cali now too.

It helps to balance the body if you are deficient some drs claim up to 90% of americans are deficient in iodine and 70% or so are deficient in vitamin D and if everythings in balance you have a better chance of staying healthy. If you already have a lot of problems & you are exposed to the radiation on top of it it makes it that much worse.

It's too uncanny to me that around the time that that disaster occurred not long after my thyroid went to hell when I was perfectly healthy prior to all that & I also wound up with adrenal fatigue my adrenals are shot coffee does nothing anymore. Battling those two has been very difficult because they have so many symptoms thinner hair, joint pain, chronic fatigue its a nightmare. I have unfortuantely been out in the rain since all that happened and also it disturbs me how many people eat seafood and don't think twice about radiation and the gulf spill.

I live in the Pacific northwest. I can't prove anything but I have had a increase in friends who have gotten different types of cancer within the last year. It was a bad year. :(
Now my niece who is pregnant just found out her baby has deformed feet, possible down syndrome and other health issues. My niece is a very healthy 22 year old. Our family and the husbands family have no history of anything like this.
2 more of our family friends have lost babies in the last few months of pregnancy in the last 6 months.
It's scary.

I'm not saying it isn't effective.

I'm saying that people are distracted by this when they should be worried about the myriad of other fission products that are never mentioned.

I-131 is only one of them.. half-life of 8 days..

[link to hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu]

[snip]

When uranium-235 undergoes fission, the average of the fragment mass is about 118, but very few fragments near that average are found. It is much more probable to break up into unequal fragments, and the most probable fragment masses are around mass 95 and 137. Most of these fission fragments are highly unstable (radioactive), and some of them such as cesium-137 and strontium-90 are extremely dangerous when released to the environment.

Cesium-137 and strontium-90 are the most dangerous radioisotopes to the environment in terms of their long-term effects. Their intermediate half-lives of about 30 years suggests that they are not only highly radioactive but that they have a long enough halflife to be around for hundreds of years. Iodine-131 may give a higher initial dose, but its short halflife of 8 days ensures that it will soon be gone. Besides its persistence and high activity, cesium-137 has the further insidious property of being mistaken for potassium by living organisms and taken up as part of the fluid electrolytes. This means that it is passed on up the food chain and reconcentrated from the environment by that process.

I knew what you meant only because it says that in the video I saw that there are different types of radiation and iodine only protects against some I wasn't aware of most of this info on radiation until recently when I finally found out why my health tanked. It's scary how long radiation can linger around for. But I know the crappy depleted american diet makes things hit us that much harder.

BLACK DAY DISASTER ~ 2032AD (TheTrueRae) Adult Content Advisory

Quote from info box:

I hope you enjoy this video message and will take the time to comment and rate with a thumb up or a thumb down. Thank you! ~Rae

There was no shorter way for grandma to tell us her story.
WARNING: Graphic pictures of actual mutations in human babies. DO NOT watch if this is disturbing to you!!!
Not intended for children viewing!!!

This is a fictional story line based on the dangers of Nuclear Power, Fracking and Fossil fuels, not to mention the steady onset of wars. (fictional means not true ...yet, for those that wonder)

The year is 2032 and a great grandmother is writing her heirs, (all people of earth) that may have survived the "Black Day Disaster" Her message pertaining to the history of how the world got so bad is meant to be an awakening to those that, even after Chernobyl and the ongoing Fukushima Daiichi catastrophies, still believe that Nuclear Power is safe and clean. The story line though fictional is based on actual disasters and facts. Facts that can be followed up in the news around the world.

We can only hope, enough people join together demanding change in the way our system of government is run, that we can implement changes in order to save Mother Earth and all mankind. Saving mankind from himself, I might add. Many of us are doing what we can to aid in an awakening to truth.

TRUTH is, nuclear power, fossil fuel usage, and natural gas for fuel is not needed, energy is alive and is everywhere. The technology is blocked by GREED. The barrier is no more than money and the love of it at any expense, ...including life!
