Scooter User ID: 35652354 Australia 04/08/2013 05:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thousands of people last week discovered that Amazon had quietly removed electronic copies of George Orwell's 1984 from their Kindle e-book readers. In the process, Amazon revealed how easy censorship will be in the Kindle age. Quoting: BuggedOut ... Amazon operators used the Kindle wireless network, called WhisperNet, to quietly delete the books from people's devices and refund them the money they'd paid. An uproar followed, with outraged customers pointing out the irony that Amazon was deleting copies of a novel about a fascist media state that constantly alters history by changing digital records of what has happened [snip] [link to io9.com] Not even hiding it anymore. I wonder when MSLSD will cover this? LOL. Something must have spooked them though...... or is it just that obvious....or it is just part of the plan brought to you by the Ministry of Truth and Peace?? |

Not that I've got anything really important on there, it's just the principle of the thing. I don't like the idea of them being able to snoop around and remove stuff that I now consider to be legitimately mine. The chariots of God are tens of thousands, and thousands of thousands. |

I didn't know they could access our devices like that and just delete stuff. Quoting: Shoot straight Johnny Heard this about them early on therefore never bothered with them due to the digital book burning potential. Guess it's a good reason to keep a hard copy around (note to hired book burning goons - I do not have a hard copy of 1984 around, only the sweet, terrifying memories of reading it what seems like a very, very long time ago). And here we are. |

And here we are. What's most disturbing is the fact they can do this in the first place. I don't have a kindle, just the phone app. So they can snoop through our phone's content via whispernet without us knowing. And if they can, who else can as well? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37185873 Has Brave New World gone too?....... And what about 'The road to Wigan Pier'? Quoting: Shoot straight Johnny Just imagine what they can do when the world is fully digital, and libraries are history ....which is why you need to start backup up all the books now and save the important hardcopy versions of things as well. This is EXACTLY the same shit the Commies and Facists do on WIKIPEDIA. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 37463680 Thailand 04/08/2013 06:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In this case, the mass e-book removals were motivated by copyright . A company called MobileReference, who did not own the copyrights to the books 1984 and Animal Farm, uploaded both books to the Kindle store and started selling them. When the rights owner heard about this, they contacted Amazon and asked that the e-books be removed. And Amazon decided to erase them not just from the store, but from all the Kindles where they'd been downloaded. p.s: Just scanned your media library ... sorry but it's a reeducation Fema camp for you... multiple mp3 copyright violations (not to mention Asian Fever 3) |

I lived on the canal at Wigan Pier for a few months, in some terrace houses, actually i think it was the 2nd one down from the Pier Nightclub?!?! i used to hit the Bees Knees and Ace of Clubs and a few other places, that was a few years ago. Your soccer team was in 4th division then. Maybe I might visit again one day..... not sure why though!??! haha |

I always tell people who have read those books that people like Orwell and Huxley (author of A Brave New World) were actually well respected futurists. They were not condemned for what they wrote by the elite, but were praised for it. These books were not meant as a warning, they are actually futurist propaganda. Smoke that in your pipe. |
