My sister, as bland and sweet as she is, has a husband that doesn't want her to work, even to this day (been married over 20 years). He wants her at his side.
That was what all women were supposed to do.
Did we, as women, forget how to serve our families?
Not just clean up after the slobs,
but to teach them to do it for themselves.

I don't care who you are. If you have kids you need to go get some tomato plants right now (REAL tomato plants) and go outside and teach them how to garden. Right now. It isn't too late in the season. They are not too old. Seeing plants grow is always a life changer. If you don't have land put it in a window. NOW. Do it. It cost almost nothing.

Im a 26 year old single father. I plant a garden with my two girls every year. I Don't see the connection between these two points but ok thanks for the post. Also I plant beans, lots of peppers, swiss chard, lettuce, potatoes, green onion, and your right its not alot of work, just have to keep the rabbits out. Also the kids love it. ITs a great way to get the kids out of the house for a little bit and they love the dirt. The hardest part is getting them to eat any of it.

Remember, TPTB usually have large(ish) traditional families. They have them, but they don't want YOU to have them. The traditional family is the best thing that we have to fight back with. The Bible speaks to this here and in my opinion, where "in the gates" is mentioned, we are talking about political power:

(For men)
Psalm 127

3 Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.

4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.

5 How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

(For women)

10A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he shall have no lack of gain.

12 She doeth him good and not evil All the days of her life.

13 She seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchant-ships; She bringeth her bread from afar.

15 She riseth also while it is yet night, And giveth food to her household, And their task to her maidens.

16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17 She girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms.

18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: Her lamp goeth not out by night.

19 She layeth her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.

20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing; And she laugheth at the time to come.

26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her tongue.

27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.

28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed; Her husband also , and he praiseth her,'saying :

29 Many daughters have done worthily, But thou excellest them all.

30 Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman that feareth Jehovah, she shall be praised.

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; And let her works praise her in the gates.

Re: I am a 40 year old woman, raised a child by myself (20yrs now) and I HATE feminist. Go plant a tomato garden with your kids NOW.
I'm a mom of three (21,18 7) married 25 years. When my two oldest were in school I worked part time during school hours. I was home before and after school, I'm a stay at home mom now. My boys are awesome, oldest is going to med school next year, second is a freshman in college now. Both are volunteer emts on the local rescue squad when they are home on breaks (as well as at squads close to their schools) one is also a volunteer firefighter. Both did their training in the evenings and weekends during high school. We had/have a home cooked dinner every night together, they get/got a good breakfast every morning before school. They never had a curfew, didn't need one they'd tell me when they'd be home and call if they were going to be late. My husband has always worked very hard to give us a comfortable life and I worked hard to make sure he knew how much it was appreciated. People say they need two incomes in the house, but they spend so much on eating out and daycare and gas and lunches out. If they did the math I think they'd be surprised at what they are spending just to work. I've had other moms make fun of my "fifties" household, but I'm happy, my husband is happy and my kids are healthy happy well adjusted assets too society. What's the point of having kids if your not going to raise them. Unfortunately there are a lot of men and women who can't be trusted to hold up their end of the relationship. I understand a women being afraid to rely on the man, being afraid of being left and not being able to support themselves and their kids. All I can say is work part time to keep your foot in the door or volunteer to keep your skills sharp. However if your going to have kids, raise them, teach them, plant the gardens take them fishing and hiking, go for bike rides spend time with them. Good luck it's not always easy but it sure is worth it.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3249097

So what about my household that doesn't have a woman in it?

What about my 10 and 8-year old daughters who already know how to plant bulbs, the requirements/advantages/differences between direct sowing and indoor starting techniques, the critical times for watering cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, and flowers, and how to successfully transplant and prune them?

We just started some lettuce, broccoli, watermelons, peppers, and tomatoes inside last night. My daughters BEG me to let them help with anything and everything I do veggie/flower garden related.

Thanks for the implication that my household is nothing since it is run by a single father. You just hardened my resolve even more that women are unnecessary.

At least my daughters will know what mutual respect really means.

My hands hold a distaff and spindle, and I regularly seek wool and flax for spinning.

If you have any womanly skills left, pass them on. Learn if you don't have any. If you don't have children, there are children who are dying to learn something that isn't related to iphones or computers, dying to learn anything meaningful and are up for a challenge.
