Time to blow your minds:

What if the aliens are real, but are here not to help us, but study us.

Just because they're an advanced alien race does NOT MEAN they still wouldn't study things like xeno-archeology/biology/etc.

What if the aliens are here simply as a scientific team, set out to study the collapse of a sentient species' government/planet. What if they're just here to take notes... and not worried about some "prime directive" since we are collapsing anyways... (all the UFO sightings).

The real question is: Will they show themselves afterwards (When any threats of corrupt powerful government influences are gone)and are they friendly OR WILL THEY depart with a large collection of studies concerning the species Homo-Sapiens, not to return for many years/decades/centuries/eons...
