The black hand is a symbol of the "unseen hand" that guides and shapes events from behind the scenes and in the shadows. His use of this symbol here shows the unseen hand coming out of the Earth and holding up a wandering red planet as if to prevent it from falling out of the sky (or impacting Earth).

The other hands represent a multitude of people. It seems to infer a great multitude leaving Earth, floating into space. The white cloud surrounding the multitude is obfuscation. Why are all these people leaving? We don't know why. Are they dying or being taken away? We don't know. The fingerprint of humanity is going away.

The apple tree is a symbol of life, legacy, continuity, simultaneously representing the reproductive growth of nature (or the human species) and the advancement of it's achievements (knowledge, wisdom, technology). The roots run deep and thick and strong- seemingly impervious to destruction and run well beyond the capacity of the painting to capture. The apples are bright red- ripe for picking. Two apples have fallen off the tree- we are at the point of a harvest. The growth of humanity has reached a point of harvest and the fruits of man's labor are ready to be consumed.

The full moon represents the apex of a cycle having been reached, one that covers the world in darkness if only to bring focus to a singular bright spot in the sky, the only source of light in the darkness as if to beckon us to come closer. We need light, light represents life, wisdom, etc. It hangs in the black sky like a doorway that we must go through and leave the apple tree behind. In this though, the wandering red planet is a stepping stone for us, perhaps the multitude floating into the sky is using the red planet as a stepping stone to reach the moon's doorway and an escape from the darkness now enveloping the landscape.
