Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37838533 Not much different than smoking a cigarette looking like a douche. You still get the smoke effect, and it feels like smoke in your lungs. In theory I think it's a great idea, but I think the use of PG is a dangerous alternative. Last Edited by tknicker on 04/11/2013 01:14 AM |

(Propylene Glycol, Nicotine, Vegetable Glycerin) *A Warning to Consumers* What are your thoughts on the safety of propylene glycol inhaled as vapor? Most of the studies that the industry is leaning on are from back in the 40s and 50s, where it was experimented as a germicide. Quoting: tknicker It was determined not only to be generally safe in any environment, but also can be a "powerful preventive against pneumonia, influenza and other respiratory diseases." [link to www.time.com] Propylene Glycol is found in almost every household, in our medicine cabinets and bathrooms, kitchens and on the shelf. "Indoor Non-Food: Propylene glycol is used on the following use sites: air treatment (eating establishments, hospital, commercial, institutional, household, bathroom, transportational facilities); medical premises and equipment, commercial, institutional and industrial premises and equipment; laundry equipment; hard non-porous surface treatments (bathroom facilities); automobiles; air conditioning filters; pet treatment, including cats, dogs, and caged birds; environmental inanimate hard surfaces; garbage containers/storage." Here is a list of some more pro PG "research" from the National Vapers Club (Vapers?..) [link to www.vapersclub.com] Based on these experiments done in laboratories over 50 years ago, the EPA issued this statement about PG: "General Toxicity Observations Upon reviewing the available toxicity information, the Agency has concluded that there are no endpoints of concern for oral, dermal, or inhalation exposure to propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol. This conclusion is based on the results of toxicity testing of propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol in which dose levels near or above testing limits (as established in the OPPTS 870 series harmonized test guidelines) were employed in experimental animal studies and no significant toxicity observed." "Carcinogenicity Classification A review of the available data has shown propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol to be negative for carcinogenicity in studies conducted up to the testing limit doses established by the Agency; therefore, no further carcinogenic analysis is required." But here's where things get interesting. I did a some digging and found out that PG is a synthesized petroleum derivative, and is actually the main constituent found in ANTI-FREEZE! Many industries use it to break down protein and cellular structure (skin); it's so strong that it can take barnacles off the bottom of boats. This stuff is cheap to synthesize, and it's most commonly used as a solvent. Now go in your medicine cabinet and check for this stuff. It's found in toothpaste, hair products, makeup, lotions and skin care products, mouthwash, and many household cleaners. It accumulates in your liver and kidneys, as well. Back to the e-cigarettes. I recently picked up one of these because I figured it would be a great alternative to my American Spirit habit. I picked up tons of great flavors and got the best model on the shelf. It was so cool! Got my nicotine buzz, and didn't feel like shit afterwards. My concern after just this little bit of research is that this is another Big Tobacco ploy, playing both sides and using age-old studies to push out these "cool" new products. I'm not a professional in these areas by any means, but just a word of caution before you consider using this as an alternative instead of just going cold turkey. Much love, I'm out RYO with good quality 'pipe tobacco' [lower tax rate] is the way to go. No? |

However, by smoking even natural tobacco, you're smoking a plant and paper, which are carcinogenic. Sure, it beats the 30,000 additional additives that come with mainstream tobacco but it is still dangerous to your health. |

Fuck that, either grow some balls and quit like you mean it, or keep smoking. Fuck. |
