This was a ploy to get Washington to turn on the magic money machine and send aid to NK. This will still happen, as a "goodwill gesture" to Kim being such a good boy. At very least, sanctions will be ratcheted back. Kim will be perceived as staring down the giant and winning, in his own people's eyes.
