Iran dealing mortal blow to US global hegemony: Irish analyst
Iran poses a mortal blow to US global hegemony due to its growing political sway across the region as well as its huge oil reserves, an analyst says.

Finian Cunningham, an expert on international affairs, wrote in a column for Press TV that Iran presents a “greater and more problematic challenge” than North Korea to “US global hegemony.”

“Iran exerts a controlling influence over the vital drug that keeps the American economic system alive - the world’s supply of oil and gas,” he said.

Cunningham warned that any possible military strike on Iran would end in a “deathblow to the waning American and global economy.”

The analyst added that another “reason why Iran presents a mortal challenge to US global hegemony is that the Islamic Republic is a formidable military power,” citing the Islamic Republic’s almost “80-million-strong people committed to anti-imperialism.”

“Any strike from the US or its allies would result in a region-wide war that would pull down the very pillars of Western geopolitical architecture, including the collapse of the Israeli state and the overthrow of the House of Saud and the other Persian Gulf oil dictatorships,” warned Cunningham.

The US, Israel and some of their allies have falsely accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and Tel Aviv repeatedly threatening Tehran with a military strike.

The US and European Union have also used the unfounded allegation as an excuse to impose illegal sanctions against Tehran.

Iran has categorically rejected the allegation, noting that as a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Another absurd notion. For you sheeples who think you know something, the United States has just become the Largest oil producing country in the world, behind the USSR who used to be number one. You really need to read some financial magazines like the Economist instead of spouting ignorance. The high price of oil has been just great for the US. The US balance of trade is now below Canada's, and the National debt now stands at 5.4% opf GDP. The US has quietly been taking their oil that then can get cheaply at home, and they are refining it into gas and other fuels that they reap a handsome profit on by selling it to other sheeples who think the US is doomed. Canada is their biggest purchaser. Iran has no political clout, and the fact that they cannot freely sell their oil is good for business. Not good for Iran, but certainly good for the US. Go back to sleep and keep dreaming your foolis dreams while your money disappears into the hands of the "sheeples".

The nation of Ireland is the biggest supporter of Iran in the western europe and always had excellent relationship with iran. The Irish sympathize with Iranian and they have a common enemy and that is the British and so do the Scottish.

if true then no need for them to meddle in other country oils and no need for the gas prices to go up in US. The truth is that sheeples do not get it, is that everything in US does not belong to US and it belongs to the Chinese. wall-street, its oil, etc. all belong to China. Canadian oil has been bought but China too. And US IS STILL IN OIL RESERVE BEHIND VENEZUELA, CANADA, SAUDI ARABIA, IRAN, RUSSIA, IRAQ.

All absurdities again. Oil reserves have nothing to do with oil production. I might have most of the gold in the world, but it is useless unless I mine it. The US is the #1 oil producer in the world, and that is a fact. As far as meddling in the middle east, the US is certainly aware that the countries of the middle east sell oil, and not much else. If they were deprived of this, those countries would fall into chaos since they do not sell anything else. The US and the rest of the world is concerned about that area's stability. If their only source of income was made obsolete, there would be massive problems form that area of the world.

Your data about oil producing countries, their supplies, and the time that those supplies last is all old. See the latest figures in the Bloomberg Report and the Economist magazine. Times have changed. Also, it is amazing that people still believe that China owns the US. Prove it. The US has debts totalling less than 5.4% of GDP, and less than 45% of that has anything to do with China. Yet the misinformation goes on and on. Mark my words, you will see a great decrease in China as the price of Oil figures into their production costa, and they are now beginning to pay wages that their people are demanding. The US is about to experience the greatest manufacturing boom it has ever had, thanks to newly found cheap oil,and natural gas.

You do have some good points Chezk. Oil reserves have been in this country for quite some time, but were tied up by the goverment so that supplies would be conserved. You are also correct to state that in order to keep peace, you do need to buy and sell from others, regardles of whether you have enough supply or not. We are a world of people that needs to learn how to stimulate the flow of goods, money and services around t he world. Being smug about supplies of natural resources accomplishes nothing. Especially if alternative sources are found to the very resources that countries so smugly think are absolutley essential and subject to blackmail.

The Irish so hate the Anglo Alliance precisely because it involves Great Britain. As a result they also hate the US since it is part of that alliance.

The Irish HATE the British so much that during WW2 they not only refused to come in on the side of the Allies, refused to allow air cover for convoys to fly out of Ireland, but they also upon Hitler's suicide sent Official CONDOLANCES to the German Government and people for the death of Their Great Leader (Hitler).

The Irish deserved to be free of British Rule but as a people they are SO CONSUMED BY HATE, as proven by their previous history they prefer Killing Dictators who oppose GB over Democracy and Freedom that they would most likely support the nuking of London itself ... if some crazy person was around who was threatening to do that.

One thing I learned from my father, who was a top US Diplomat in Ireland many years ago ... NEVER trust an Irishman.

I read somewhere that one of the reasons the US is trying to destabilize the middle east and gain control of certain oil and gas producing areas is specifically to keep the price high and production lower so that they will benefit from their new levels of export.
