But it also is a once in a lifetime opportunity. "The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title." Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. - H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women |

They opened the Gosbank gold vault in I think it was 1991. There was supposed to be something like 3000 tons in there according to the books. They had around 10 or 12 tonnes still left. They opened it again a few years later, 1993 maybe and there was exactly 0 gold left. Not one fucking ounce. The entire Russian gold reserve was stolen. I only ever found mention of that story on one obscure little website and was never able to confirm it, so take that with a grain of salt. But these tales of missing gold are not limited to just Fort Knox. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1242173 Canada 04/17/2013 05:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I did manage to find a couple of references to the story. Some say there is still 240 tons left. Others say it's all gone, like the article 1 read years ago. This one is a bing cache page, hope it loads. Fort Knox is discussed. The Russian caper starts about 2/3 down the page. This one is by Bill Still. You probably recognize the name. [link to cc.bingj.com] [link to www.marxmail.org] [link to 2ndlook.wordpress.com] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1242173 [link to 2ndlook.wordpress.com] In November 1991, the head of Gosbank the Central Bank of USSR, Viktor Geraschenko confirmed that USSR had less than 400 tons of gold reserves – and not the 1000-1500 tons as estimated. Russia, which has been one of the world’s Top 10 gold producers for the last 100 years, to have a paltry less than 400 tons of gold as reserves created a flutter in the IMF, World Bank, and the Western world. Where did this ‘estimated’ 1000 ‘extra’ gold go? Hah. I bet they did the same shit to gold as they did with all these mortgages I say. They rented, leased and certificated the shit out of gold and soon will realise they sold like a thousand times more gold than actually exists. Thats how some 1000 tons can go missing unnoticed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1211208 It's backed by our promise to pay... The average coin collector probably has more gold than Fort Knox.. Well it may be some day, people do not want non backed money any longer.
