I am assuming since they had the State Republican committee comment on her position that she is a Republican.

She might be completely right, but unless it is blown open on the front page then it will be another one of those theories that hangs around forever and is never proven or disproven. She will take a fall next term election...the "opposition" will use this against her...unless she turns out to be right and it is publicly known.
