Nasty little surprise there. 6 to 10 feet deep is pretty generous.

These things are showing up everywhere....

I considered mentioning that, especially since I live in the burbs of Chicago, but we really did get a couple days of torrential rain.

I haven't looked at the link yet, but I'm wondering if it's from water pipes and aging infrastructure. In this economy, cities are hard pressed to make repairs let alone hire enough people to find the problems.

But then... I know how "public officials" like to line their pockets before keeping their campaign promises.. so....

Pish... Sink hole? Here in Florida we call that little thing a pothole.

Precautions should be taken when you see a sinkhole. Fence off the affected area with fencing. Warning boards should be put near the sinkholes.
