I think it was in third grade that I learned about cloud formation, but I'd read it on my own before that. Clouds are condensed water vapor, contrails are mainly hot water vapor which rapidly cools... Not that hard to figure out.  Well, if it is hard for you to figure out, then there's nothing to be done for you.
