Liberty's Teeth (OP) User ID: 23517599 United States 05/05/2013 12:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am debating between a handgun and a shotgun. Shotgun seems to be the cheaper alternative in initial price and the ammo is currently cheaper and more available. A handgun would be much more versatile though. Quoting: Raoulduke It all depends really on if you have children in my opinion. If you are without children and you can keep a shotgun out and readily accessible while you sleep than it is a good alternative. Pistols can be stored in easily accessible gun vaults that have a 4 digit code or biometrics. This keeps them locked and away from children but accessible in a moments notice. There aren't too many safes that you can open in less than 5 seconds. In my opinion this is why shotguns for home defense and children don't mix. |
Liberty's Teeth (OP) User ID: 23517599 United States 05/05/2013 12:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you can't get ammo for handguns anywhere. so take that under consideration. it's a huge waste of $500 to buy a gun that you can't shoot. Might as well just stick with the baseball bat for home defense... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27428316 Just get a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun. Handgun ammo is temporarily out of stock. This frenzy can only last so long. But if you can safely store a shotgun, by all means...the first rule of a gunfight is to have a gun. |

No kids so that isn't an issue, I have been leaning twoards a home defense shotgun I just don't like that I can't really take that to the range, haven't looked into prices yet but I would like one I could change the barrel out on and at least shoot some skeet with. One, it fits my hand well, is concealable if needed, both my wife and I can shoot it, and because a 45 cal bullet is a quick way to stop an assailant. I also have a laser site, which for a small gun can really help with aiming. Also, Glock is known for making an extremely strong, long-lasting weapon. The biggest drawback is that it can only hold 6+1. |

There have been threads on this website the last week or two that shows you where and how to buy ammo. You just have to have the time to watch the sites and be fast at the check out. I have bought 40 caliber and 9mm (by the box and bulk) for an average price of 38/rd just this last couple weeks. One of the mods, Chip, has repeatedly tried to tell people. **thanks Chip!** Just have patience and keep refreshing and the bot will find it for you, now if you can get it in your cart and keep it there till you have it paid for??? That takes some speed and luck! Nice thread op! |
