You need a new tower by the sound of it. On some old PCI vid cards cleaning the contacts with a pencil's eraser worked. Perhaps a bounce sheet with some thin plastic strip would allow you to clean the chip-reader's contacts. I doubt compressed air would clean the contacts but it would get any dust out. Id try blowing the slot out with a fast blast of compressed, air. If that dont work. I agree with those that say it sounds like a hardware error, but. Unless an update messed with the driver. You could go to the manufactuers website click on support then drivers and then enter the model number and download the latest driver for the card reader. Some printers have the card readers built into them. Shot in the dark but check your printer. If its the tiny sd card some phones come with a usb adapter in the phone box with the cords and stiff. If you have a recent phone check the box for it. If that doesnt work the newegg link is the winning idea. |

If I reboot the PC with the SD card plugged in, it then works. (Or I can manually turn 2 services on, "hidserv" and "SCardSvr" using task manager) Good luck! |
