That Strange Star Is Not A star

Nevermind... I just watched the Youtube video you posted! Interesting

These are nothing more than de-focused stars and/or planets.




Only difference being the dark spot in the centre - that is caused by the secondary mirror in a reflecting telescope - cameras don't have this secondary mirror, so you don't have the dark spot.

*note* his de-focused star pattern is steady because he's using a false star. Real stars 'twinkle'.

Changing colours are caused by unsteady atmospherics - especially when viewing a star/planet that is low in the sky.
Astronomers choose a star that is high in the sky for star-testing, to minimise atmospheric interference.

I have never heard of such a thing, Im telling you all this thing is so weird.
Ijust remebered here in UK they put this thing on CH5 and passed it off as being a LIGHT on a STICK this is why Im still looking into this thing.
It wld have to be the longest stick in world.
It was on CH5 alien and ufo programme 1 month ago no lie.

I just clicked on the thing I see was on CH5 a programmme about ufo about a month ago. They passed it off as a light on a stick. I will try n find it.

Well, yes - any small light source will look like that when you de-focus, especially when you're magnifying it.

A bunch of us often go observing away from urban light-pollution.
From the site we use (a car-park by the side of a reservoir), there's a farm on a hill opposite with a security light.
I've used that light a couple of times to check the scope's alignment after the car drive up there - using the same method in the video above.
And during the day, I've even used the sun, reflected in a ball-bearing positioned at the bottom of my garden.

Any tiny point of light will give the same effect when slightly out of focus - and the effect is routinely used by telescope owners for checking and aligning optics.

It was the same thing I was looking at in my telescope on the show. I was not looking at a light on a stick I was looking in the sky. Why say it was light on a stick when It clearly was not?

ANY distant light will look like that when out of focus.
A star, a planet, a plane, a streetlight, a security lamp, a chainese lantern, some guy pointing a torch in your direction, and a random 'light on a stick'.

The point is - that the pattern is generated within the optics, and there's no way of knowing what the original object is, if all you have to go by is a de-focused 'Airey' pattern.


Next time you see this object in the sky, take note of direction, height, time and your approximate location.
Then if it's a known astronomical object, it will be possible to identify it.
