Ijust remebered here in UK they put this thing on CH5 and passed it off as being a LIGHT on a STICK this is why Im still looking into this thing. It wld have to be the longest stick in world. A bunch of us often go observing away from urban light-pollution. From the site we use (a car-park by the side of a reservoir), there's a farm on a hill opposite with a security light. I've used that light a couple of times to check the scope's alignment after the car drive up there - using the same method in the video above. And during the day, I've even used the sun, reflected in a ball-bearing positioned at the bottom of my garden. Any tiny point of light will give the same effect when slightly out of focus - and the effect is routinely used by telescope owners for checking and aligning optics. |

I was not looking at a light on a stick I was looking in the sky. Why say it was light on a stick when It clearly was not? Quoting: sas21 ANY distant light will look like that when out of focus. A star, a planet, a plane, a streetlight, a security lamp, a chainese lantern, some guy pointing a torch in your direction, and a random 'light on a stick'. The point is - that the pattern is generated within the optics, and there's no way of knowing what the original object is, if all you have to go by is a de-focused 'Airey' pattern. Next time you see this object in the sky, take note of direction, height, time and your approximate location. Then if it's a known astronomical object, it will be possible to identify it. |
