A cat's favorite thing to do is scratch/climb, a person's favorite thing to do is ramble... Let's sever your vocal cords.

I did that once to two of mine. feel guilty to this day - that was years ago.

It is painful to them as well.

I really don't understand others affection for a disease carrying animal whose only loyalty is to whoever feeds them.
Any cat caught in my yard goes to my mates hunting dogs.

No, no, it's not that cruel, really it's not. The scratches heal & the dogs really enjoy the sport. Although the last one didn't put up much of a fight.

Whenever a neighbour asks if I've seen their missing cat & mentions it's becoming common, I say there must be Vietnamese living in the area. They love BBQ cat.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16570544

Because of people like you, is why I would never allow my cats outside.....

I have always had indoor Cats and there love and loyalty is nothing you have a clue about..Most people who have Cats spoil them and that is why Cats have a independent spirit...

I love all animals and would never do anything to harm them however people like you do not deserve any animal, one day you might be the PREY for a Predator...Watch out KARMA can get ya where it stings!
 Quoting: christian

Cats are killers. A University study found that even the most docile cat, that is allowed out to roam, kill at least 300 animals a year. Cats are the #1 cause of native animal extinction in Australia.
My actions are to protect those native animals. One stinking cat to protect thousands of native animals, I like those odds. Good karma for me. If I lived on acreage I'd be legally entitled to shoot ANY cat on my property.
Ignorant cat owners who allow their cats to roam are irresponsible & don't deserve to keep their cat.
If you can think of a quicker way to dispatch a cat I'd like to hear it Drowning is cruel & I don't own a gun.

Good on you for keeping your cats contained. If my dog roamed free to piss, shit & kill [for the fun of it] animal control would impound it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16570544

That study is pure bullshit. I've owned cats for years, live in the country and let them roam at will. It's rare that they are able to catch and kill anything, a couple times a year at most. 300 a year is complete utter nonsense. Are sociopathic cat killers stupid too?

PLEASE DON'T HURT YOUR SWEET KITTIES - THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO YOU!! RATHER TURN THEM OUT ON THE STREET TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES!!!

I learned how to trim my cat's claws with regular human nail clippers. If you give them adequate scratch posts, and keep their claws trimmed, they will leave your furniture alone. I would rather go through a hundred sofas than multilate my kitties.

(warning, graphic [i.e. honest] photos of the procedure)
"The inhumanity of the procedure is clearly demonstrated by the nature of cats' recovery from anesthesia following the surgery. Unlike routine recoveries, including recovery from neutering surgeries, which are fairly peaceful, declawing surgery results in cats bouncing off the walls of the recovery cage because of excruciating pain. Cats that are more stoic huddle in the corner of the recovery cage, immobilized in a state of helplessness, presumably by overwhelming pain. Declawing fits the dictionary definition of mutilation to a tee. Words such as deform, disfigure, disjoint, and dismember all apply to this surgery. Partial digital amputation is so horrible that it has been employed for torture of prisoners of war, and in veterinary medicine, the clinical procedure serves as model of severe pain for testing the efficacy of analgesic drugs. Even though analgesic drugs can be used postoperatively, they rarely are, and their effects are incomplete and transient anyway, so sooner or later the pain will emerge." [Emphasis added]
~ from The Cat Who Cried For Help

ASPCA Position
The ASPCA is strongly opposed to declawing cats for the convenience of their guardians. The only circumstance in which the procedure could be condoned would be if the health and safety of the guardian would be put at risk, as in the case of individuals with compromised immune systems or illnesses that cause them to be unusually susceptible to serious infections.

What is declawing?
Too often, people think that declawing is a simple surgery that removes a cat's nails—the equivalent of having your fingernails trimmed. Sadly, this is far from the truth.

Declawing traditionally involves the amputation of the last bone of each toe. If performed on a human being, it would be like cutting off each finger at the last knuckle.

How is a cat declawed?
The standard method of declawing is amputating with a scalpel or guillotine clipper. The wounds are closed with stitches or surgical glue, and the feet are bandaged.

Re: Adopted 3 Kittens....Cuter than Cute, Holy Terrors and I am going to de-claw them..
OP, you are getting some serious harassment on this thread!

It is your choice whether or not to de-claw your cat if you want to do so.

My cat is de-clawed and he had zero problems with it. His paws are fine and he uses the pads of his paws like fingers. He cannot climb the curtains, however he uses his toes to climb just about everything else. He has no trouble at all. He has adapted perfectly.

My best friend's cat has killed mice and birds without claws and gets into trees just fine as well.

They may have to be resourceful, but they are smart and adaptable and there is no reason NOT to have them de-clawed if they are going to be indoor cats. They will wreck your furniture and your carpeting if they like the texture better. I know, because I bought mine scratching posts, pads, mats, a half-circle scratching ramp, and furniture covers.

Claws belong to their instinctive behavior, any Idiot de-clawing cats should not have cats in the first place when the one is soooo worried about his precious precious furniture, fuck your furniture, seriously, scratch tree and 2 or 3 corner scratch devices (sisal), problem fucking solved dammit.

How about de-braining idiots who let de-claw their cats? Because their brain is causing real harm to others and it might not stop at cats!

Don't be a douchebag.

My cat is a wonderful fun-loving cat that I rescued from starvation after he was abandoned by his original owners. He could not survive as a feral cat because he had been raised indoors his whole life and was starving to death.

He came up to me in a cemetery and begged me to help him. So, of course, I took him home and took care of him. When I got him, he had fleas, tapeworms, and even though mostly grown, he was only 5 pounds when he was supposed to be 8.

Now he has a loving family and even though he does not have claws, he does great. He has never shown signs of tenderness or favoring of his paws after the first week that it was done and he USES those little paws like fingers, so yeah, I have the experience to say that he was fine and always will be.

Declawing a cat is the worst form of torture you can do to a cat. I will never do it to another one again!!! My poor cat was never able to protect itself again, could not use its litter box right again they can't cover their business anymore!! They try to scratch their " imaginary" claws, not to mention the horrific limping and licking and drawing up if the little paws after its done....SOOOOOO PAINFUL!!! and bless their little hearts ....they can NEVER play with another toy the same ever again!!!
I really really hope you think twice before doing this to them. How would you feel if you're nails were ripped out????

Please don't declaw the kittens. "what if" you
are not able to keep them for their lifetime and the
next person puts them outside.

DON'T BE LAZY, ...you just teach them to have their
nails TRIMMED with fingernail cutters. Keeps the
nails intact but blunt, so they won't damage furniture,
ect.

Oh yeah well you don't sound like a fun person at all! You are a real selfish jerk declawing your Cat for your precious fucking furniture when you are too lazy to train your Cat NICELY BTW and buy a fucking scratch pad for it! How would you like someone to yank your fingernails off with pliers, huh? I feel sorry for any animal that has to live with you let alone a human being! angry

That study is pure bullshit. I've owned cats for years, live in the country and let them roam at will. It's rare that they are able to catch and kill anything, a couple times a year at most. 300 a year is complete utter nonsense. Are sociopathic cat killers stupid too?

So you know better than an in-depth, year long study headed by a professor & his team in Australian conditions. Gee you must be a freakin genius. An opinion does not stand up against hard cold facts stupid.

The leader of the study thought his team was getting the figures wrong when he first saw them. Further investigation found that they were in fact a minimum number.
The animals included native birds, lizards, frogs as well as marsupials.
Cats are the number one cause of animal extinctions in Australia.

Your ignorance knows no bounds, you brainless moron.

I'm in the USA, who cares about Australia? Nothing more impressive than a professor and his team. Wow, that certainly settles the matter. Maybe cats have an easier time of it in Australia, maybe not, but it has not a freaking thing to do with the topic at hand. Would I take such a study at face value? Nope. Don't you have cats to kill psycho?

Yes I do brainless.

Clearly your a selfish turd who has no love for all creatures, only your disease carrying murdering feline.
Your argument is contradictory.
No point in arguing with a someone who's mentally deficient. Excuse the big words, I've kept it as simple as possible, either google or ask someone who doesn't wear a helmet on the bus.

There are still some vets that will de-claw but many now will no longer perform the procedure unless there are extenuating circumstances. IE; infection or another life threatening reason.

Most of the vets around these parts will no longer do it.

Don't they have free mental healthcare in Australia? You might want to avail yourself of it. Taking pleasure in the pain of a small animal (for whatever concocted reason) is not a sign of health my friend.

Don't de-claw your cats. There are these caps you can get that fit over the cats' claws that prevent them from scratching stuff up so that you don't have to subject them to having there claws removed.

Declawing should be BANNED. It's a animal cruelty plain and simple.
