Open carried for the first time tonight
Just thought I would share. I live in Alabama, where I go to school and work security at a bar on the weekends. I live a block from campus, and 3 to 4 years ago it was a nice area, which includes a strip of bars adjacent a couple of blocks where all the students and faculty hang.

Ever since we had a shooting downtown last summer, the violence has seemed to get worse.

[link to blog.al.com]

I had a friend (regular patron of where I work) get mugged a couple blocks from my apartment that required stitches to the face and lip, and he said the attackers were speaking arabic. We have a big foreign exchange program here and there is an "Islamic Learning Center" just down the road and a block from the mugging and about the same distance from my apartment. I'm not saying we have a big arabic violence problem, its usually black and whites, both about equally. We have a lot of white trash and some crazy black folk around here committing crimes left and right.

What topped it all off was the British soldier who was asymmetrically attacked and beheaded yesterday. I know that seems like a pretty random act of terrorist violence but it was not. This was an asymmetrical attack on a soldier of a country who is actively at war with AQA and the taliban in Afghanistan and abroad. I am a combat wounded veteran, and call me paranoid, but I think we are going to see more of these "targets of opportunity" from these scumfucks, and a wounded veteran at a popular university seems just as crazy as London in broad daylight, but i'm not taking chances.

I had a nice chat with a lady cop who was sitting in her car near my apartment before I left for work around 830 or so, where I politely informed her that I would be open carrying late night after the bars close, obviously for protection. Luckily here in Dixie there is no law against open carry. The only illegal thing is concealing in a car or on person without the proper permit. Pretty rad if you ask me. She was well aware of the law, or lack of laws and thought it was pretty cool that I wanted to exercise my right to self protection.

I just thought I would share my story. If anyone thinks i'm race baiting or anything like that I could at least prove to some registered user that there is an islamic place near and you can use your own googling skills to see incidences of shootings and crime in Tuscaloosa.

If anyone cares, I carry a Beretta M96A1. It is chambered in .40 S&W. What I like about this particular pistol is that it is the same frame as the M9, which I carried on my deployment except the M9 is chambered in 9mm. It feels like old times, I guess. Being fairly proficient with it from past training is another reason I prefer this big heavy clunker. Ha

I guess if anyone has any questions about shit like this, lets discuss!

Re: Open carried for the first time tonight
I guess the reason I posted that is so maybe folks here in GLP, especially veterans (I see quite a few here it seems) might check into their state's laws on the subject. I am a firm believer in the FBI statistics that prove less gun control deters crime, and i'll be willing to bet these pussy ass public beheadings.

Veterans out there, it might be one of us instead of the Royal Army, and last I checked these fools are cool with killing civilians as well, so start carrying Americans. Not only is it a right of yours (except liberal hell holes) but it is a responsibility to you and your family to be able to defend them in the absence of police protection.

Damn right Daughter, i'm glad to hear you aren't in one of those FEMA camps we call Chicago or NYC and are able to carry. We have those gang problems around here, unfortunately. A couple years ago a damn parking lot carnival had multiple shots fired. I was eating in the Chilis by the place, and holy shit was it a Chinese fire drill. Shots fired, people scurrying like ants after their hill is stepped on. Wild. The craziest part was that it took the police close to 8 minutes to show up. I ass-u-me there would have been police on scene for the event, but apparently not. Wild times.

DidleMajor, no permit is required to open carry. It is simply a right, just like your right to breathe the air. As long as you are not a convicted felon or intoxicated or on school or government property, you can carry openly. If you want to conceal the weapon you have to go to get a permit from the sherifs office.

Diddle, I don't have a conceal carry permit, but will be applying for one soon. I don't even have to surrender my identification to an officer for carrying a pistol, even if they ask. Obviously I would, I see no problem with them checking my age (you have to be 21 to own a pistol) but I am 26 with a pretty long beard and hair, I can assure you, no cop would be suspicious of my age being under 21.

We got some different laws here in Alabama. You live with a woman or man, as husband and a wife would, you are married!

If someone says you are you have to get a divorce. You don't have to live together very long for that to be true.
Common law, is what the law is.

It is Common Law, that lets you carry a gun in the open.

It goes back a long ways, that is why we don't like to change our constitution.

Well that just makes me even more jealous. I NEED a small firearm for when SHTF and in Canada it's next to impossible to buy one legally. You can't even carry one unless you are law enforcement.

Uh... Daughter did you even read my original post?? It clearly states where I live in like the first couple sentences... cool2 So I guess yea, I know how our laws work haha.

----Belay my last, it was me who didn't realize you were referring to Alabama when you said "I'm glad you know OUR laws." I just assumed you meant the US. My fault. Long shift at work and i'm relaxing with a beer and some fine nug, so my reading comprehension skills are at an all time low!

Nope, DA/SA. I love it: As I draw up I naturally flick the thumb safety with my right thumb as I cock the hammer with my left, and my grip is good just as get a good sight alignment/sight picture. I'm a lefty. Gives it er a nice sound as I draw.

Haha AC, sure, but I'v felt pretty manly since I joined the Corps when I was 17. I'v toted a weapon in support of Iraqi Oil Freedom, and that gives perspective as far as being exposed to and participating in violence. Its always the person who isn't armed that becomes the victim, so if you are equating me being armed with "feeling like a man," then yes, I do. Last time I checked the words "victim" and "man" aren't synonyms.

I should have put :Bruce Willis voice: or something after that. I'm just being colorful with my response. Sword eh? Thats pretty cool I guess. Edged weapons can be a good time, which is why I keep a bayonet in the bracket for the chain lock on my door, you never know when someone might come knocking with a sword in their hand while I'm cleaning my Beretta.

Ah mate! I'v never understood equating protecting yourself with a firearm to boners and shit, but thats probably because you can't own one, and aren't able to realize that its just a very efficient lethal tool used for self defense, and for some marksmanship sports and hunting game.

Re: Open carried for the first time tonight
"with whats coming down the pike, only a fool goes around defenseless...."

Around here its crazy, man. A third of the town is students, who are mostly idiot rich kid sheep, which I know is an ignorant generalization but its my observation, with a small minority of thinkers. The thinkers have political opinions, know the news, have informed OPINIONS!!! The informed part is the important one if you ask me.

The other third of the town are what most students call "bammers," kind of a derogatory, but accepted name for the locals who live and work here. Its mostly the sheeple student body that calls them this, as if they have to have a label for everything that isn't their "cookie cutter" mold. These are the good citizens of all race and socioeconomic class here in T-town, they live in all the neighborhoods. There are good/bad parts of town, but there aren't on solid NSEW dividers or anything, they are just kind of sporadic and not very large. I guess you could either say nowhere is safe, or there are just many small more dangerous areas all over town, either one would be correct. The university property itself is great, and most of the area around it, which is why I find my particular areas increasing violence disturbing.

The final third, might as well be the bangers. They are trash of all color, genders and ages. They rob, shoot, sell drugs, and do other ill shit in the many small hoods. The problem happens when the hood shit comes to the other 2/3s lives. This third of the people become dissident at the drop of a hat, and seem to love parading around in their colors, or the non gang trashy folk acting tough and tearing shit up just to encroach into good peoples lives. Many times the shootings don't happen at the bars in the bad neighborhoods, but in the good bars in the better parts of town by people who are from these worse neighborhoods and would typically frequent their own rougher bars. The world is getting really crazy, even in a large town in Alabama. Weird.

Good thing I can feel like a man and pop my hip-strapped Beretta boner all over town!5a5a5a5a5a
