Another interesting point is the insane escape velocity of this relatively small and massless? object... The comet will continue to accelerate on its way to perihelion (its closest distance from the sun), which occurs on Nov 28, 2013. Right now (January 2013), the comet is traveling at a little more than 11 miles/second and will only increase by small increments each day, but as it gets closer to the sun, watch for the comet velocity numbers to increase more rapidly. The comet will reach a maximum velocity of more than 230 miles/second (370 km/sec) as it goes around the sun in November 2013! Quoting: Source: [ link to www.physics.emory.edu] Quoting: Children of the Atom And even using their own data something seems a bit off... OK watch... 230mi/s = 13,800mi/minute = 828,000mi/hr See...? Somethings not right
