Re: What do you do when you reach an end to you search for knowledge?
As said above, many of us are at the same stage. Our so-called enlightenment is actually a dark night of the soul, with the realization this life is pointless in and of itself. This is a death to us, so we go thru five stages of grief, altho not always exactly in this order, and we cycle thru them as well: denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, Depression, and finally acceptance. I think depression must last pretty long before we are willing to fully surrender. Once we do, we will realize that we really don't "exist'" this is an illusion, we are not guilty of anything at all, and we are home with God in pure communion, we are all One w God, which is LOVE as in pure bliss. I have felt this bliss only in fleeting moments, so I try to remember it If only to remind myself it's inside, not anywhere Out there, the kingdom is within. Meditation, physical exercise, being out in nature all help me to rise above the depression, a force that literally is actively attacking you and trying to prevent you from rising out of this world and joining with God/Your Higher Self.

As is quoted by another glp poster, with the Asian bear avatar, If you are going through hell, keep going. I love that....

Peace to you. You are not alone!

Sounds like having a child would change your perspective since love is said to be greater then knowledge. I didn't see you mention having kids so im guessing you don't have any.

I long for the day i have my own child. feels like the only thing that would bring inspiration back into my life.

And yet, you are helpless to act...

Restrained by forces greater than yourself.

Greater than your desire. Your will. Your strength.

You are Helpless...

And yet, you remain engrained in your philosophy. Thinking the next level is just around the bend.

Where is peace, OP?
Where is assurance?
Where is comfort?
Where is wisdom?
Where is purpose?
Where is meaning?

If these answers exist, why do they not bring fruit in you life?

Fantastic. You've completed the lesson of humanity.

Resistance to the lesson of life extends the length of the session, yes? The friction of resistance creates the intrigue of living, for better or worse.

What you shared in your post details acceptance of the human domain. Wu Wei...the path of water, no resistance. And all is as it should be. No challenge, only acceptance, all mystery and discovery is set aside in favor of zen. He Who Submits, Rules.....

But "purpose" is not complete with the mastery of human weakness. The great command, purpose and goal is Know Thyself. If indeed you'd reached the pinnacle of existence there would be no room for boredom.

What you seek is no further away from you than your nose from your eyes. The creations of man are the evidence of thought. The mastery of creation is the evidence of the infinite within.

Find it.

Your statements are FULL of 'I', 'I' want /wish this.

TRY a 'We' mentality, with the general direction of attempting to help OTHERS, NOT yourself. If you succeed in just one a week, it will be reward in itself. In OTHER WORDS, STOP concentrating on yourself and your supposed problems, and move into the world of helping others, VERY rewarding !

If your search for knowledge led you to apathy, then you found the wrong answer.
When you see the world as it is you can move your finger and make huge changes.
If you cannot see changes to be made (if for no purpose other than entertainment) you are lost.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1018225

Nah, it's not like that. When you arrive to the nexus of all knowledge, you realize that all compelled action is pointless. You are truly doing nothing when you believe that you are progressing with forceful, compulsory action. Instead the action should flow from you effortlessly.

As one diminishes doing—here 'doing' means those intentional actions taken to benefit us or actions taken to change the world from its natural state and evolution—one diminishes all those actions committed against the Tao, the already present natural harmony. As such one begins to cultivate Tao, one also becomes more in harmony with Tao; and, according to another great ancient Taoist philosopher Zhuangzi, attains a state of Ming, or 'clear seeing'.[citation needed] It is in the state of Ming[citation needed] that the Taoist is in full harmony with Tao, and 'having arrived at this pointless point of non-action, there is nothing that is left undone.' It is upon achievement of this Chinese equivalent to 'enlightenment' that a sage begins to perform wei wu wei, or 'action without action.' Thus the sage will be able to work in harmony with Tao to accomplish what is needed, and, working in perfect harmony with the Tao, leave no trace of having done it.

An example of active non-action using wu wei, would be to teach in such a way that no course of action is dictated to a student (they are just told raw facts for use, and left to their own creative devices), so they assume that they have been taught nothing, that is, until their learnings have been integrated in their lived experience.

There's nothing to be done in the universe, or worth doing. Nothing truly needs to "change", and when it does, the change takes place automatically without any need of interference.

I've struggled many years to find the perfect method / knowledge that would allow me to know the "best" thing to do at any moment / situation. Although I have come close to something functional, there was always a hole of uncertainty bothering me, and when I finally gathered the courage to peek into that hole, I discovered that there's absolutely nothing to be done. There is no greater authority telling us to do one thing in favor of another, it's only us fools who like to attribute greater or lesser value to certain activities. The universe does not care about right or wrong.

So it's completely up to me. I decide what shall be done, when and how. But why do anything at all? If I sat down on a corner to meditate for the rest of my life, it would be just as valid as resuming my life in society and living the good American dream. I can jump off a cliff right now or I can go to a fancy restaurant to have dinner, it makes no difference. There' s nothing to be done. There is no
intrinsic value to anything we do, except perhaps in the experience of doing it.

All dreams have already been dreamed. All things have already been accomplished. What's left for one to do? People deluded as they are will chase after all sorts of 'dreams'. yet I'm afraid this no longer works with me. I can no longer deceive myself into having any more 'dreams' and 'wantings' if I see no substance in them.

So it's not possible to deceive yourself into having desires once again after you become aware of the emptiness / pointlessness of it all, unless..

Re: What do you do when you reach an end to you search for knowledge?
I know that this is something very hard to swallow for those of you content with a relativist point of view (the "there is no truth" gang, among others), but I am truly an individual who has found all the answers (or at least all the answers that matter).

If you have trouble believing that, it still makes no difference to my case. Whether or not I'm the real deal or just a schizophrenic, the fact stays as a fact that what I'll describe to you is exactly how I feel ... and there is seemingly no way out.

so please help me out here with ideas.

I am not depressed. On the contrary, I feel very sympathetic, very thankful for what life has given me. For all this understanding that I have, I feel calm and peaceful, and powerful. My self-confidence is also over the roof.

But I'm worried about this feeling of meaninglessness that has set in my life. I cannot convince myself to do anything anymore, since everything seems empty to me. Only the most basic necessities and the most logical needs of household life can move me. For everything else I cannot move a finger towards doing the involved tasks. Nothing rocks my boat anymore; nothing fascinates, motivates or enthusiasms me. I laugh about everything, but I also feel that I could cry about everything.

I feel like I'm back to the beginning, and with no energy left to start over. I do have physical and mental energy to do common things, but most of it is in a motionless, paralyzed state, as if my body has been storing it for the future.

My situation would be ironic if it wasn't sad. What is beginning to annoy me is that I am also having trouble keeping my word and helping out people. Sometimes I will take so long to do something for a friend that they just give up on me.

I mean, "helping others" should be a pretty convincing argument to anyone. I never thought that it could be topped by my onsetting apathy... but I was wrong. Even the idea of helping has lost meaning to me. Who should be the first to receive my help? Where do I begin exactly? What do I gain? What do they gain? All of these questions start flooding my head and soon I no longer know what to do.

Those of you who have reached a high level of spirituality know that life ultimately has no guidelines or intrinsic meaning / purpose , except for the one that you create. This is a marvelous realization -- that you are indeed the god of your life -- and yet here I am totally out of ideas. I have absolutely no idea of what to do with my "freedom."

Over the years I have considered many scenarios / strategies, hundreds of them to be frank, and not a single one has worked. I tried over and over again to come up with some kind of self-made Oracle that I could look into and suddenly know what to do , despite of my own wishes. But you can only lie to yourself for so long...

For a while I was also afraid that the only solution would involve forgetting or destroying part of my knowledge, which -- now I believe -- is not only illogical, but probably impossible.

So here I am. I am much similar to the Marvel character called 'the Sentry ', arguably the most powerful of Earth's superheroes (Hulk and Thor fans often differ), but due to crippling mental problems he is totally ineffectual in real battles.

I am unable to participate anymore, to interact with people, to take their dreams as my own, etc. And I don't think it's a matter of me being unable to see thru their points of view. Trust me, I have eliminated / outed every single point that ever passed thru my head. Absolutely none of the many beliefs, affirmations and quotes that people cling to make any sense to me anymore. Catchphrases and clever sayings used to work a few days, sometimes weeks, but nowadays they only last seconds. Whatever is your "point" about life, I'm confident that I can destroy it with only 3 sentences.

Nothing that I ever learned in theory seems to work in practice. Practice is a closed system...and everything we do is completely spontaneous / out of control. I simply cannot force this creature, this "body" that I associate with, to do the things that I desire. Hell, I'm not even sure if I exist.

There is no such thing as control, only illusion. You don't exist -- you only think that you do.

It's like an invisible forcefield. I cannot even force my body to move a finger toward doing anything useful. I have tried physically fighting this force before. I remember when I used all of my strength to move myself to the office to work on one of my projects, but my body paralyzed and my mind went blank. Then I collapsed on the floor exhausted.

And the worst is that I cannot lie to it either. I've tried luring my body with sex and food before , but the process was often interrupted halfway because somehow the 'FORCE' KNEW my game.

And there is more...

In order to convince yourself to do something , there must exist some kind of problem that you are able to see. But I see no problem with the cosmos. Everywhere I look, it seems just the way it should be. Nothing to fix, nothing to prove. I see no forces to oppose and no challenges to conquer...except perhaps this one: how do I fill this great big void that I am now the king of?

Nihilism or enlightenment? You decide. I cannot say for sure because I don't believe in Nihilism either, and enlightenment has been disappointing to me lately.

I need your help, because this star, this person, is suffering a premature death. I have lost my identity and I don't know what to do anymore.

Thank you for reading.

Become a Buddhist monk and meditate, dig in yourself further.
Experience new things! Go do some skydiving, even if you don't want to, just go and do it, then observe yourself. After that come back and share.

I WILL venture a third reply, after reading all of your and other posts.

I now seems clear you have NEVER LOVER FULLY another human being and LOST that love. It IS the ultimate experience, other than the love of your children.

IF you had, you would STILL be searching for that same feeling, WHERE, the OTHER person is MORE important that yourself, to the point of giving your life for that person, without a moments hesitation ! Sad, but most people never have, IMHO !

Get Passport: Travel.

If you can speak more than 1 language then you are on the right road. But if you can only express yourself to one culture, in one language, it avails nothing. (ironically everything is vanity anyway)

Nothing broadens the mind like the surprises of travel.
You may have a lot of cognitive application in mysticism, but there are a billion other things you know nothing about.

Set out to discover them. You don't even know what you are looking for yet. Admit that first of all, you are simply awaiting new data.

Do not seek the object, but instead eliminate that which bars you from seeking. There is no end of the road to knowledge. Total human Fallacy.

Interesting post. It seems to give a partial answer to my case.. which is probably the closest I will get while in the domain of words. Maybe I'm failing to submit to some aspect of Creation, but which one??

They say that sometimes doing nothing is the best thing to do. But here I am doing nothing while the clock ticks and days pass and the problems mount. wtf?

Acceptance / Surrender are indeed the only paths available to the enlightened individual, or so it seems. I'm surrendering little by little, against my own wishes, but there is really no other way.

I have reached a pinnacle -- I don't know exactly which one -- but certainly it has not evaded all apathy from my being. Bored? Not really. I'm very excited, but unrestful, impatient, and unsatisfied. I need more energy, more motivation, to elucidate this blockage and finally be able to release my full potential to help people.

Re: What do you do when you reach an end to you search for knowledge?
A Man of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda

In our conversations, don Juan consistently used or referred to the phrase "man of knowledge", but never explained what he meant by it. I asked him about it.
"A man of knowledge is one who has followed truthfully the hardships of learning," he said. "A man who has, without rushing or without faltering, gone as far as he can in unraveling the secrets of power and knowledge."
"Can anyone be a man of knowledge?"
"No, not anyone."
"Then what must a man do to become a man of knowledge?"
"He must challenge and defeat his four natural enemies.
"Will he be a man of knowledge after defeating these four enemies?"
"Yes. A man can call himself a man of knowledge only if he is capable of defeating all four of them."
"Then, can anybody who defeats these enemies be a man of knowledge?'
"Anybody who defeats them becomes a man of knowledge."
"But are there any special requirements a man must fulfill before fighting with these enemies?"
"No. Anyone can try to become a man of knowledge; very few men actually succeed, but that is only natural. The enemies a man encounters on the path of learning to become a man of knowledge are truly formidable: most men succumb to them."
"What kind of enemies are they, don Juan?".................

Re: What do you do when you reach an end to you search for knowledge?
And yet, you are helpless to act...

Restrained by forces greater than yourself.

Greater than your desire. Your will. Your strength.

You are Helpless...

And yet, you remain engrained in your philosophy. Thinking the next level is just around the bend.

Where is peace, OP?
Where is assurance?
Where is comfort?
Where is wisdom?
Where is purpose?
Where is meaning?

If these answers exist, why do they not bring fruit in you life?

Dude

I should already have achieve the next level, and then the next, and the next.. I don't understand why I remain here motionless and paralyzed. It's almost like there is REALLY some invisible entity holding me back.

When I was 20 I thought that by 28 I would already be a superhero based on my knowledge alone. By my calculations right now I should be flying around with self-invented gears saving the world.

That's how i perceive the potential that this knowledge has given me. But certainly I have miscalculated. My knowledge remains flawless, but its application has been unsuccessful

I have been given wisdom, meaning, purpose, comfort, assurance, as you say. But none of these attributes translate well as effortless action.

Masons believe that godhood can be achieved by knowledge alone, but look over here: I'm living proof that they may be wrong after all. because even with my knowledge, no fruit has been harvested. And I don't know why. Do you?

My tree, it's a fruitful one after all, but it's too tall apparently. Should I jump from this 'high horse' and perhaps land onto something good, perhaps an answer? What do you think?

Great link from The Teachings of Don Juan. Very pertinent to my situation.

You see AC, I do feel like I have the clarity and the POWER to do great things. And the fear, at least the fear to learn, is no longer an issue.

However, as don Juan says in the following passage

If he can see that clarity and power, without his control over himself, are worse than mistakes, he will reach a point where everything is held in check. He will know then when and how to use his power. And thus he will have defeated his third enemy.
 Quoting: [link to www.thinking-approach.org]

fearlessness, power and clarity are USELESS if you have no control over yourself. And that's pretty much what's going on with some of us in this path of the 'Warrior'.

I have no control over myself, my own actions, and so this power I was given was never really mine. I can only conclude that until now I have only been manipulated by some entity .

What good is fearlessness if you can't put it to the test?
What good is clarity if you are blinded by it?
What good is power if you never use it or use it in the wrong times?

A very insightful post AC, which has elucidated the problem, but not the solution.

The tide never comes in. You have to walk to the water.
The Superhero, his knowledge...you couldn't give it back even if you wanted. It's your memory of yourself.

It matters not how tall the tree gets. The fruit is yours for the picking. Get a ladder.

You expect to pick a pear from an apple tree. If you ask a wise man the meaning of life...he'll tell you wisdom. If you ask a wealthy man the meaning of life...he'll tell you riches.

If you want the meaning of your life, you must ask yourself.

Your fruit wont produce because you must seek the one who can give clarity you may claim to have this, but you do not see how all of this translates in the world you reside in, so it must be absent.

pray ask GOD to reveal himself to you....My GOD always answers he is The creator and helper no problem to big or small, he will not forsake you,
be sincere and HE WILL ANSWER

GOD's Word is the seed of life you can not produce fruit without seed. The answers you have are ment to make you feel smart, but never truly provide what they promise.
i know all about the masons and the illumination they claim to have and are willing to share for a price.

You can not have light and darkness. they can not share priority in your life.

what masons have is from dark it is trickery ment to keep you blind and wondering through endless material to find your own conclusions. Epiphanies are not real unless they change a life.

the only way to be God-like is through blood and sacrifice which has been provided through Christ. If you trust anothers wisdom you will see the thirst you have can be quenched, The life you lead can be divine.

I have been gifted with divine power from GOD, things i cant even wrap my head around sometimes, but only through faith and humbling myself could this be achieved.

Do this one favor and pray with your heart to my invisible GOD the creator Father of christ and ask to be shown the way ask for they awnser you seek. Ask He come to you and reveal himself. He will not fail you, and it will change your life.---- @shnonymous

I already know the meaning of life. It's simply the meaning that you give to it. We could perhaps share ideas and build a rank of "meanings to life" from the most important to the least important, but every item in the list would still be just an illusion, a temporary creation of your mind to cope with life. With that said, the only meaning that is not an illusion is the one you (or your mind) creates, but then it only lasts for so long and then you find yourself in need of a deeper meaning.

This goes for the person who suggested having kids. Your kids will grow up one day and then you find yourself old (due to loss of sexual energy) and taken over by depression. How smart is that? It's very honorable to have kids and get involved in love affairs and shit, but the price to your health is also very high.

The highest meaning of life is that we should share, give, and offer to others so that they may extract meaning to their own lives from our actions.

Deep enough? But it's still not working for me. knowing the meaning of life does not help me to move a single finger. I sit here knowing that I need to get up and help people ,and yet my body doesn't move. I'm strong, yet I'm weak.

Knowing is not the same as doing. There is a huge gap between knowing the path and walking the path. I've been trying to walk this path for some time. I took a few steps already, but now I'm pretty much exhausted and aimless asking for help in a Internet forum.

And you still want me to walk the path? Sure, but I have no motivation to, no energy. Where is the energy that I need? Where can I find it? How many steps to reach the water?

I have asked time and time again to a higher intelligence than myself, call it God if you will or just 'Higher Self' as I prefer to call It. And I WAS given answers... many of them in fact. And therein lies the problem: I was never given a direct, specific, objective and definitive answer; instead I was having to go back to another begging session to get more answers, because Mr. G-o-d would only give me motivation for 2 or 3 days max. So I was just becoming a drug addict (for religious experience), like most religious people are.

So friend, if your god is the same as my god, then he is incompetent. Though, I must admit that maybe it's my fault for not asking the right questions. Or maybe my affliction cannot be put into words. Either way, "God" has not given me a simple solution to a serious problem. HE has only given me indirect, cryptic phrasings that do not translate well in practice. So I'm giving up on this option for a while. I count on you to convince me otherwise.

To sum up

1) Your Christian God is incompetent. Here is a person who sincerely wants to use his knowledge to help others, and yet I'm being given absolutely no guidance. Much to the contrary, I'm being held hostage somehow. Maybe He doesn't care after all.
2) I'm not a mason ,never was. And don't fully sympathize with their teachings.
3) My religion is Omnitheism ( [link to rationalwiki.org] Omnists believe in everything and every god because they have unified all beliefs in a single personal theory / view of Creation. There are as many gods as people can come up with, and yet problems continue to abound. How ironic. We're being watched by hundreds of useless, lazy gods. I can be your god if you wish, just help me out here first finding a solution.
