Screaming Kids In Restaurants
GLPers, I'll probably make a lot of enemies from this, but let me throw something your way. What if there were kids and no-kids sections at restaurants. I'm talking like smoking and non-smoking. Not saying you should corral people with kids in a back room in a dungeon or anything, just wondering if maybe the world would be a much less frustrating place if there were a section where people could go on a date to a restaurant and have a peaceful meal rather than spend $200 after sitting next to a family with a bunch of kids carrying on, yelling, and running all over the restaurant. That's why I don't go to Chuck E Cheese for dinner-- because I don't care for that. Now picture this: you've just spent hours looking for a babysitter and dropped some dough for a babysitter and then go decide to take you lady/man, whatever, for a nice night out. You sit at your table, order a nice bottle of wine, order your appetizer and dinner and there comes a family with 3 kids who begin to carry on, yell, and run around all over the place? What do you do? Is that fair? Yes, I know it's up to the parents to keep their kids in line, but most of them don't care. Wouldn't it be better to separate the families with kids from the dates? I'm talking expensive restaurants, not like cracker barrel or anything like that. I just don't think it's fair to drop a bunch of money just to have your meal spoiled by a bunch of screaming animals. Now' again, I'm talking equal service and amenities, so don't think I'm some child hating person who wants to lock them up in a dungeon. I just think that people who go out on a date want some chill atmosphere, not a romper room. Who's with me? ANd I can't believe this hasn't caught on. I'd much rather have some chain smoking person next to my table than some kid yelling his head off when you're trying to have a nice romantic QUIET date.

I have a toddler and I agree with you. If we go out for dinner, we don't want to hear that. We leave him with my parents for a few hours.

Re: Screaming Kids In Restaurants
Yeah guys, It's mostly the parents' fault. Poor kids don't know any better. like yesterday for example, hubby and I went to lunch to an expensive restaurant, because it was friday, and who the hell would bring their kids to an expensive restaurant for lunch. Well, Dickhead parents didn't buy the kids any food bc they were too cheap to do so, so the little ones were naturally hungry and of course they decided to carry on and be a pain to everyone else. Meanwhile, everyone in the restaurant was super annoyed bc they couldn't STFU and wouldn't stop running around. Unacceptable.

LOL well I don't wanna punish the parents either, but damn, if you see a couple wanting to celebrate, don't sit a family of screaming kids right next to them!!
and then of course you look like the asshole when you wanna move. I just feel shitty paying for an expensive meal after it's been ruined by nails on a blackboard screeching from children who their parents could care less to control. Hence my suggestion for a kiddy section at restaurants.

You got guns, don't you? I imagine that a .45 in the mouth would be enough to persuade a noisy kid to sit down and shut up, thereby freeing you up to enjoy the rest of your meal in peace.

Go to a restaurant in France, with French families.
Hardly a problem there.

I agree with you and I've had three kids. Never would I take them anywhere that was not noisy in the first place. I don't understand people taking little kids to expensive restaurants anyway. They take two bites and their done. It's a waste of money.

YES!! If they had childfree sections I would eat out more. In Tampa they have over 18 at some of the movies. Why can't they do this at restaurants?? I choose not to procreate and when I go out somewhere I want peace and quiet. So many people treat the theater or restaurants as their own homes with the kids running around screeching and throwing food. And it isn't the kids faults it is the stupid parents. Most of the time they are staring into space oblivious to what is going on around them. Why did they bother having kids if they aren't going to parent them??

Having worked in restaurants off and on for years, I feel for you.

When I was a waitress, I found the key to good tips and happy customers when I had a family with young children in my section was to keep the kids happy. They act up because they need/want attention - I'd head them off at the pass and put MY attention on them first - before the menus, before their parents. Especially in situations where it is obvious that the kids run the family, if you've got the kids 'under your spell', everything is a smooth ride and the parents are usually so shocked to have their kids behave, they tip quite well. Plus, your other customers get to enjoy a peaceful meal.

I agree OP. We have 3 kids. We REFUSED to take them anywhere besides McDonalds or a kid friendly place to eat until they learned to control themselves. People eating out don't want to deal with hyper active, unruly kids, and we damned sure didn't want to have to be getting on to our kids every 5 minutes while trying to enjoy a family dinner. But they were young and out of nowhere would acquire a ton of energy. Luckily, for us and everyone else lol, we can all quietly enjoy a family dinner out without having to bring along the tranquilizer gun.

Yeah! I've waited tables and bartended in the past. The worst is when kids make a freakin mess-- spill syrup all over tha place, squirt ketchup on the walls, and make such a nuisance, and the parents just laugh like it's some activity the kids just excelled in, then you're left to clean it up and they tip you peanuts. Asses.
