In light of NSA/Prism what are YOU doing? Or what CAN you do?
I'm not sure if this topic has been brought up here, but I think it's something that everyone should be talking about.

Before the whole NSA/Prism scandal, I used TrueCrypt full system/drive encryption on Windows operating system. Wireless internet access, protected with WPA 2 Passphrase 8 characters. And that would be about it, I'd browse the web as normal. I personally think I've trusted way too much information in the like of Google and Facebook.

So what am I doing now?
I consider myself quite technically knowledgeable, but I can't be perfect so feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong or any holes.

I removed all Windows operating systems from my drives, and the files that relate to them. I now store all information I deem to be 'private' on a separate drive with a triple cascade cypher, with a password length of 60+
I'm most comfortable using the Ubuntu Linux distro, but I'm not 100% sure that it is safe from spying. So I replaced Windows and now use full system encryption with a different password again.
That's my drives sorted what else? No more Chrome for web browsing, and have filed for all my Facebook/Google accounts to be deleted. And have created new ones, obviously under a different alias to use and contact people (I know it can be linked with old profiles), but on these new accounts I'm a lot more careful about what I do and say.
I removed the wireless function from my router both hardware and software wise (Removing/nulling the antennae, turning of WLAN) and now use the good ol' Cat5 again.

I've thought of using a VPN or something, but I'm not sure of the benefits .

What I'd like to do is make a list of things you can do to help prevent the information have being used against us.
I'll start it off, if you want to add something just say.
(Yes these things may be considered common sense)

Things YOU can do:
1. Stop using Windows operating system - Even without Prism they're pretty insecure. Recommended Slackware or Gento (Avoid SELINUX)
2. No more Chrome/Mainstream browser for anything you'd like to keep private.
3. No more wireless internet (Ethernet is better anyway)
4. System Encryption/Drive Encryption I recommend Truecrypt as far as I know, it hasn't/can't be broken yet.
5. Add to the list.
6. Private VPN
7. Encrypted Emails
8. Use Tor for anonymous web browsing (Not Encrypted though)
9. Make certain system/files/folders/chips ROM (Read only)
10. Make a LiveCD and store files on SD-Ram

I know you can't be 100% protected, safe and keep your information secure. But we can't make it easy for them can we?

Also why aren't people going crazy of the fact the government are continuing these data mining operations, abusing it. I would of expected huge protests over this and people kicking off shit. But nothing happened?

Bill Binney said you can do nothing about it. That's as definitive an answer as you'll get anywhere.

Here's a great website that gives you safe alternatives to use: [link to prism-break.org]

Just know that not all Linux distros are safe, such as the mainstream ones: Unbuntu, Linux Mint, etc. Many apparently have SELINUX built into them which was made by the NSA. Lots of people on a technology chan board I frequent recommend using Gentoo or Slackware, but there is a learning curve to use those.

Also while Tor is safe many forum/chat websites block them such as GLP, due to people using Tor to troll and spam.

If a signal can be sent to an artifical limb and a signal can be sent back to the brain to process and tell you the density of an object, furthermore this to be shown on 60 minutes to the public, you have to question what technology is out there recording your brain signals and the ability to destiguish the data and sort or catagorize it in some form. It does not end in the material things we use day to day. This goes much further, it is how we 'think' not what we do anymore.

I have a few more that you could do op.

Make all chips read only (cd"ROM",nic eeprom, bios etc)

Boot-on cd, move downloads to sd-ram (which has r/w switch)

Use null-modem and custom program for file transfer.

We are not to be limited and sacrifise our freedoms. It is these corporations that need to have set limitations and reforms. They worked for you, until 9/11 and the endless war on terror turned on you, a constant state of emergency is what enpowers them, over you. Stand as one. No fear. Im 23 and if I can see this it means the younger generations are waking up. 3 years ago I was blind... it is definately been a fast wake up call so far.

Thanks for that, and I'll have to switch from Ubuntu then clearly. Added.

As much as I don't doubt that it /MAY/ be possible, but on a mass scale for all humans? I doubt it, just the sheer storage for peoples every thought would be incredible, although in the future you may be right.

The truth is nothing you do to hide further behind any screen is going to end the oppression. The answer lies in the real world when we realize the only way to end this problem is to physically remove these scumbags.

We have become so comfortable in our daily lives that everyone is now afraid to die to secure freedom for future Americans. Fwiw i was told the Tor browser was developed by the Navy so I stopped using it. Though there may be many ways to try and procure your anonymity online, the best way to end these liers reign would be to unite in the real world and physically arrest these oppressors. If we don't now, I feel we lose this option permanently as we become more addicted to the distractions of technology.

I completely agree, the best way to solve the problem would be to remove the ones who are doing this. I personally feel that is largely is too late to doing anything but we need to try.
The general population needs to get on board, and stop their governments.

We need countries ran by people, for the people and only the people. We need to remove the monetised system, to remove the power.

One day perhaps. Everything just seems to be at bursting point.

I get the feeling that would just to more harm than good. Yes if everyone flooded the system with disinformation, then their filters wouldn't work, but they can change them, they'll know.
All I can assume that will actually do, is just get you heavily monitored and then fucked for some simple crime.

What I'm doing is beginning to think about moving to a more insignificant smaller country. I don't want to be a citizen of the most powerful country on earth when it becomes a surveillance state and dictatorship. It already instigates unrest and starts wars overseas, so how do we know it won't become another Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia with this kind of power over us. We'd no longer even be able to safely raise an opinion against any policies or protest in any way.

The ICs are also compromised ....

siemens, intel, AMD all contain transponders & self destruct codes ..

remember Vic 20 computer & altair 8080 ... and commodore 64

all finished up by a destruct command code inside the CPU.

all cars, all computers all equipment containing CPUs can be fucked at the touch of the switch ...

This will become public & verified soon as HACKERS will start scanning the CPUs commands codes and sending to hell everything containing this fucking transponders that work in gigahertz & terahertz frequency spectrum .

I wouldn't consider it over the top, it's a pattern of number and letters i slowly memorised. The password was 4 digits long when i started, and every so often i'd just add a few digits and remember it. Over time, it's become so long, but easy to remember :)
After all it gives me complete protection of thieves and governments (until they can brake it).

That's only for the encrypted drive, my main boot drive has a much shorter password, but still of a nice length to ensure security. Don't get my wrong I know this only helps if they actually come for my computer.

I suppose my best form of prevention, is literally not saying anything I do not wish anyone to know, unless I'm speaking to them in a way that cannot be monitored
