determine the amount they took that night. if part of you wants them to stay on, tell them that their income will garnish the stolen wages and get them to sign it in writing. if you are not down or they are not down, can them both and replace them. there are lots of people out of work and looking for work who would kill for that job including me:(. as for as prosecuting or getting police involved completely up to to you as are all your decisions. just know that nowadays getting the fuzz involved tends to ruin a persons record thanks to the police state. and if that's what you want - lay the smack down

My best was a couple that came in to eat during the slow time between lunch and dinner. They had an infant with them and I mentioned how he looked like my son at that age. We got to talking about things, I thought nothing of it really. The bill was about $30. and they had written $100. in the tip line. They were gone before I even had a chance to thank them again for their generosity.

I understand your point. I am guessing tipping used to be the kind of thing people did when you put forth some extra effort. Or like to grease the wheels a little. I think somewhere along the line people ran with it and then the government stepped in and made a separate minimum wage.

It makes me wonder, do people not in restaurants like bellhops make the lower minimum wage.

Anyways, that's why I jumped at the opportunity to be a bartender for better hourly. Although my cheapskate owners took about 2 months of my telling them every other week that I still wasn't getting 9/hour.

You should have been balancing the receipts and drawer and reviewing the tapes each night. They started slow and innocent. Free drinks is good business practice. Intermittent reward is addictive. Your two got out of control because you weren't managing them. If they don't countbthe drawer at night they aren't aware they've been pouring out the profits and neiglther would you be if you were pourin

The cash is a little different but I guarantee youthat started slow too. Cigaretter money that got repaid. Cig money that didn't get repaid. An accidental error buying change or swapping out tips for big bills. You didn't notice. They figured it was ok, like the penny dish, take one leave one, or changing back a dollar instead of ninetyeight cents.
