Why isn't the acceptable level of oxygen something else, like 19.3 percent, 19.8 percent or 20.2 percent?" The usual answer I get is, "Because OSHA says so." Contrary to popular belief, OSHA doesn't say that an oxygen level of 19.5 percent is "safe." Instead, 29 CFR 1910.146(b) defines a hazardous atmosphere as one "... that may expose employees to the risk of death, incapacitation, impairment, or ability to self-rescue (that is, escape unaided from a permit space), injury or acute illness from one or more of the following causes ...." The standard then goes on to list five causes, one of which is "... atmospheric oxygen concentration below 19.5 percent...." Note the subtle difference here. The standard does not say that atmospheres containing 19.5 percent are safe; it says that those which have levels below 19.5 percent may be hazardous." [link to ehstoday.com] |

[link to www.climateemergencyinstitute.com] If oxygen levels were low wouldn't we all be noticing it though? Many of us ARE noticing the lower levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. We are experiencing dizziness, almost blacking out while in a sitting position, a greater tendancy to lose balance while walking, headaches that are unrelated to stress or pollen counts and in those who normally don't suffer from headaches, unexplained lethargy, a lack of sharpness in thought processes (greater difficulty concentrating on what you are doing), your mind wandering more while you are driving, fatigue occurring with little exertion, and less restful sleep. The symptoms listed above are exacerbated by weather conditions in which there is high humidity, low pressure, high pollen or dust particle counts, chemtrailing, smog, and car emissions. |

"New research shows oxygen depletion in the atmosphere accelerating since 2003, coinciding with the biofuels boom; climate policies that focus exclusively on carbon sequestration could be disastrous for all oxygen-breathing organisms including humans" "Mention climate change and everyone thinks of CO2 increasing in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect heating the earth, glaciers melting, rising sea levels, floods, hurricanes, droughts, and a host of other environmental catastrophes. Climate mitigating policies are almost all aimed at reducing CO2, by whatever means. Within the past several years, however, scientists have found that oxygen (O2) in the atmosphere has been dropping, and at higher rates than just the amount that goes into the increase of CO2 from burning fossil fuels, some 2 to 4-times as much, and accelerating since 2002-2003 [1-3]. Simultaneously, oxygen levels in the world’s oceans have also been falling [4] (see Warming Oceans Starved of Oxygen, SiS 44). It is becoming clear that getting rid of CO2 is not enough; oxygen has its own dynamic and the rapid decline in atmospheric O2 must also be addressed." "The simultaneous decrease in ocean oxygen not only threatens the survival of aerobic marine organisms, but is symptomatic of the slow-down in the ocean’s thermohaline ‘conveyor belt’ circulation system that transports heat from the tropics to the poles, overturns surface layers of into the deep and vice versa, redistributing nutrients and gases for the ocean biosphere, and regulating rainfall and temperatures on the landmasses. This dynamical system is highly nonlinear, and small changes could make it fail altogether, with disastrous runaway effects on the climate..." [link to www.i-sis.org.uk] |

When the concentration of oxygen decreases even slightly by a little more than 1-2 percent, people immediately begin to feel the effects. Healthy individuals are unable to work strenuously and their coordination may be affected in oxygen environments of 15-19 percent; those with coronary, pulmonary, or circulatory disease may feel symptoms. At only 10 to 12 percent oxygen, respiration increases, lips turn blue and judgment is impaired. Fainting and unconsciousness begin to occur at 8 to 10 percent oxygen. Death occurs in 8 minutes at 6 to 8 percent oxygen; recovery is possible after 4 to 5 minutes if oxygen is restored. These values are approximate and may vary greatly depending on an individual’s health, physical activity and the specific working environment that they encounter. ----------------- the turning blue is for healthy people. It is much worse for many. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |
