Will the jury hear all charges they can consider? Or guilty, not guilty of manslaughter.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43158829

When they get their instructions after the closing arguments they will be given the charges that they can consider.

...

Agreed. I'm not too familiar with the US "justice" system- when can we expect a verdict?
 Quoting: FOTN

Um ... I put all that data in the OP. Don't really feel like retyping it, sorry.
 Quoting: Sir Phydeau

we answered it. <3
 Quoting: Only Me

Thanks to you , the OP and Voltaic for your perspectives. I appreciate it. Personally I think he will walk- this explains the Judge's behaviour- she is acting because she knows that it is a clear cut case, expect a book sooner or later...

Re: Zimmerman Trial 7/11/13 Day 22
When the jury reaches a verdict they are still in the jury room. The bailiff that is in the room tells the judge. Then it is up to the judge when the jury is called out. Remember there is a bailiff in or just out side the jury room.

If it is going to be not guilty the judge will not call the jury back into the court room until Monday.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43111611

Right, AC.

But my point is that the bailiff only knows that a verdict has been reached- not what the actual verdict is.

So how can the courts control the timing of an unfavorable verdict?

Does anyone understand what I'm getting at?

One thing is for sure. Whatever the verdict is. O'mara has restored my faith in lawyers somewhat. This man was very professional, no lashing out handled witnesses from both sides very respectfully and passionately. He is a true professional in my mind and I am a new fan.

Re: Zimmerman Trial 7/11/13 Day 22
The unfavorable verdict is a not-guilty verdict.

In this case, they want people at home by their TV's for the weekend viewing.

If they riot, Friday afternoon is the BEST time to release the not-guilty verdict.

The city looses money during riots. Keeping it over the weekend will reduce that loss by A LOT.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

Hi, Voltaic.

I agree with this.

But I've always wondered.....

Does anyone know what the jury's verdict is before they actually enter the courtroom and the judge reads it?
 Quoting: Miggy

As far as I know, only the jury knows. Sometimes the judge is handed the verdict before the jury foreman reads it off, but that's pretty much moments before it's read.
 Quoting: Sir Phydeau

The judge can over turn a guilty verdict, but not a not-guilty.

If she had orders to ensure a not-guilty verdict, her behavior begins to make some sense.

Who knows.....speculation at this point in time.

I don't think I'm explaining myself very well.

I'll try once more then perhaps go back to bed and start my day over....

Several posters have suggested that if the verdict is guilty it might be postponed until Monday in hopes of quelling any riots.

My argument is that this is impossible since nobody knows that the jury might find guilt before they actually enter the courtroom to proclaim it.

By then they can't postpone a verdict. It's out of the court's control. The jury has already been marched into the courtroom.

Allowing the jury to consider lesser charges provides the perfect escape. This ruling will be huge.

The threats on seem to have ratcheted up substantially since yesterday. It's going to be a long couple of days till verdict.
 Quoting: GreenApple2Step

here's good info on the lesser charges:

[link to www.mediaite.com]

"the likely lesser offenses applicable to George Zimmerman are:

Manslaughter;
Third Degree Felony Murder;
Aggravated Battery;
Aggravated Assault;
Felony Battery;
Culpable Negligence (Argument can be made not applicable);
Battery; and
Assault."

and there is a lot of other details/info on those charges, sentencing, etc in that link... enjoy!
 Quoting: Yoda17460874

Never having served on a jury I don't have first hand experience. But that list (above) looks like throw it at the wall and see what sticks. I am sure the charging documents are going to be a legalese nightmare.

There is a law that states if a judge finds something in the evidence presented was erroneous(lol) they can withold a not guilty verdict and demand a retrial. I'm trying to look it up now.
