It's probably nothing, but the commercial just semed strange to me at the time, I have only seen it the one time. Maybe when I see it again, it will make more sense. Just one puzzle piece, of the jigsaw whole. |

And a bunch of kids and grown-up ballers wear shirts with the slogan and have it written on their face. Because apparently Lebron has ascended to god-like status. OK, you know that I get as carried away with sports as anyone, but...gimme a friggin break. The commercial I saw was one step away from literally crowning Lebron as the messiah. Now, I realize that this man will probably make Nike upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars singlehandedly throughout his career, so I can understand why THEY are excited. I'd be pretty psyched about Lebron too if I was Nike's CEO. |
Back in 2004 User ID: 87602 United States 04/30/2006 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | BEIJING - Easily dismissible as a classic piece of government over-reaction, Beijing's banning of US sportswear manufacturer Nike's latest television advertisement - featuring a US basketball hero trouncing dragons, a martial-arts teacher and flying spirits - says a lot about China's lingering sense of victim status. Titled "Chamber of Fear", the advertisement featured National Basketball Association star LeBron James simultaneously dribbling a ball while fighting off several adversaries, clearly Asian and very possibly Chinese. In the ad, produced using a computer-game format, James' goal was to encourage children to learn from his own upbringing and experience to confront life's hurdles and not run from them. Part of a global advertising campaign, the ad was aired nationally for more than a month before a statement on the ban was issued on December 6 by China's State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). Since the government said the ad "violates regulations that mandate that all advertisements in China should uphold national dignity and interest and respect the motherland's culture", Nike (named after the winged Greek goddess of victory) had no choice but to admit defeat and apologize. Nike subsequently relaunched the ad in a heavily edited format. Nike sportswear is hugely popular, as a status symbol, in China (and shoes and clothing also are made in that country and others), with sales rising 66% last year to about US$300 million and more than one store a day opening in the nation of 1.3 billion people. "Mossad chief Meir Dagan, in Washington last week in preparation for a visit to the U.S. by Olmert on May 23, held secret meetings with U.S. officials to discuss Iran's nuclear program, reports the London Times. While details of the meetings were not revealed, it is believed Dagan met with his counterparts at the CIA, the Pentagon and the National Security Council." Just one puzzle piece, of the jigsaw whole. |
