The thing is.....it's easier to jump on the bandwagon and start spouting all sorts about what happened that night of the shooting and the trial and all that good stuff.

I takes a bit more gumption to set aside prejudice and assumptions by spending time actually paying attention.

Thats the entire trial from start to finish.

Remember that there are things already known about Trayvon's social habits but these were never revealed in the trial to the jury.

My opinion on George's innocence had nothing to with Trayvon's social media or what he did in his spare time. It was self-defense, and it was clear as day.

The most exciting moment in the trial for me was that one late-night court session where all hell broke loose.

Awww!!!

I understand completely. I had a thread once that ran for a couple of months for like 130 pages.

When it slowed down, I ended up feeling like my favorite site shut down. Even though we were still all over GLP and crossed paths, it was like losing friends.

I feel the same way. I wrote an article and posted it today just to generate discussion for the same reasons you've stated.

Dear disaffected Republicans: Welcome to the Libertarian Party, we think you will find our small government economic policies to your liking. However in exchange you will have to find a way to be ok with "the gays" getting married.

I knew this would happen though, I knew there'd be withdrawal. I'm just glad that after all of this, the right verdict prevailed.

The only thing I've passed any kind of opinion upon Martin over was his actions that led to his own death; assaulting someone for "dissing" him.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm stated MANY times on these threads that we should not be speaking ill of the dead, let his past stay in the past and base any opinions about this trial upon the facts of this trial.

Generalizing everyone into a group in a statement is just a sign of ignorance, sir.

It's tragic that a teenager died.
It's tragic that that teenager was downtrodden in his life, by pretty much everyone, starting at a very young age.
I saw an abomination the other night - a mother terrorizing her child so much that child let out a bloodcurdling scream of fear. It was treated on youtube as a comedy.

But more tragic is that that teenager saw oppressing others as his solution to having been oppressed.

It's amusing to watch the antics of the apologists. Have you seen how they're flitting from one argument to the next hoping to see one stick? The shotgun approach.

I love this latest one. "A person can intentionally provoke and they're not responsible?"

Ok. So what you're saying is that if a woman is walking down the street wearing a short skirt, she is responsible for the man raping her having provoked the situation. Well you're in vile company - that's the position that judges took in victorian england.

Let's get it straight. There are lines in life. You cross that line and there are consequences. Provoking someone is not a line. You allow yourself to be provoked. The teenager could have said "all good, I'm going home now". Instead he chose to escalate and vent all his hatred for the world out on the man that provoked him. He crossed the line and he received the consequences.

Here's a challenge for you apologist's to answer. What should Mr Zimmerman have done when he was having his head pounded into the concrete?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37854989

2 small cuts that didn't required stitches. was his head really pounded?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43325008

also, he didn't pull the trigger when his head was being 'pounded'
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43325008

Yes, he did. You've obviously thrown out all the facts and have followed the media hype like a sheep. Good job.
 Quoting: Little Willow

2 small cuts.. that happened from his head being pounded on concrete...not cuts made by something sharp. Impact that could cause brain damage, internal injuries. One more blow could have been death. How can some be so ignorant?

Hear! Hear! I am glad that people are opening their eyes to this situation that has become an epidemic. Because this case was so sensationalized, others can see the problem. But this happens every single day, every single hour. We are a prisons for profit nation. Zimmerman was and still is a "political agenda," These politicians that are still ranting are upset because they wanted something out of this deal. "Gun control." They never cared about Martin or Zimmerman. At the same time because we are a prison nation and these politicians make our laws, some of the top leaders have huge stocks in the prison corporations. They are making huge profits from Americans being locked up. Unfortunately, I have seen first hand, from experience the media in states skew (lie) the facts on cases that clearly state the opposite of court transcripts. Accused citizens are convicted long before a trial even starts. They get a mob mentality going that wants to crucify someone whether they are guilty or not. I for one am completely sick of it.
I wish more people would make a stand. There is nothing wrong with a righteous anger. More people need to get off their butt and start standing up. We have allowed them to get away with all of this because of laziness.

"Gun control" just means "people control."

This is not about bringing up Martins past. This came down to an incident where it involved him being on top of Zimmerman and beating his skull into the concrete. I heard a friend from out of state say this and thought it was pretty good on summarizing. ( I think it can apply whether it be a "guilty or not guilty outcome")

I'm a little troubled by the notion that a jury who had the benefit of seeing an entire presentation of evidence that was only summarized in the evening news for the rest of us has committed an injustice for finding that evidence insufficient to take away a man's liberty. I the jury did its duty, applied the law, weighed the evidence, and found that evidence lacking, they should be applauded, not condemned. The jury is supposed to render a verdict on evidence, not popular sentiment.

From what I have seen, the evidence was conflicting. There were no witnesses to the entire encounter. And if the jury could not discount beyond a reasonable doubt Zimmerman's defense that, regardless of how the fight started, it ended with him pinned on the ground having his head beat into a sidewalk such that he reasonably felt he had no alternative but to shoot (again, from what limited amount I gathered) to avert serious injury or death, that's not crazy for a jury to acquit. Self defense cases are factually messy, and involve decisions made in the heat of the moment that hopefully are judged fairly by jurors who not only have the benefit of hindsight but who likely never have personally faced a self-defense situation or have any way of knowing how those moments can feel. There's a reason the burden of proof is on the prosecution.

I don't know what happened an I'm no expert in Florida law. But I worry any time we say, as we often do in these high profile cases, that the system is broken merely because a defendant widely assumed on the basis of media coverage to be guilty goes free. To me that means our society often only gives lip service to the presumption of innocence and the safeguards of the judicial process.

Cause you end up having media broadcasting things like this and people spreading it. They want to think of Martin as a delicate fragile child that was skipping back from the 7-11 with his skittles and tea in hand. The big bad wolf came after him like in Little Red Riding Hood. See following:

I have many African American friends, I have many friends from all different nationalities. To me, if they are born in America, they are American. That's not the issue though.

There were some good points that Michael Richards stated.

"PROUD TO BE WHITE"
This is great. I have been wondering about why Whites are racists, and no other race is......
Michael Richards makes his point........................
Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points...

Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.

And then there are just Americans.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you.. so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.

You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.

You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.

You have the NAACP. You have BET. If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.

If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives, we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US ... Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud...... But you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists??

There is nothing improper about this message. We have LOST most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves!

BE PROUD TO BE WHITE!

It's not a crime YET... but getting very close!

Re: ZimmermanTrial - The Verdict - (?)

Thanks Tangy...my mother came on here and I told her I had no idea what it would do until I could ask someone, since I've not been a member long. Wasn't sure if it was like facebook, where you can log out and someone can log in. So, I should tell her, if she ever does that again...to put an aka/mother....after my name...or get her own account...lol.

LMAO, yeah it's tough if you have two people in the same household. Even though a new account would be the same user number, it would have a diff name at least. Careful with giving each other karma though. :)

Nah, hers is being repaired right now. She won't be getting on mine. She thought it was pretty confusing, so I doubt she will be getting her own account either. No worries on karma...even if she did get an account...she would never start a thread... too much work. She said she's still just trying to figure out facebook. She thinks this is just hilarious now, after I told her what you said.
