If God's law has passed, what sins are you repenting for??
God's law is the standard not just by which we sin (1 John 3:4), but by which we live. My friend Becky posed this question below, and also this 7 minute video explains it in simple and compelling fashion.

If there is allegedly NO MORE "LAW" since the death and resurrection of Messiah Yeshua, then, WHAT SINS are people in churchianity allegedly REPENTING OF, when they claim that they are REPENTING ???

In other words, if there allegedly is no more "LAW" ), then WHAT did they do WRONG that they need to REPENT OF ???

And what is the STANDARD of what is RIGHT and WRONG?
Their standard?
Their church's standard?
Their church's denomination's standard?
WHAT is the STANDARD ???

The STANDARD of what is SIN is what YHWH ELohim says is SIN according to His WAYS and THOUGHTS in His "LAW" (1 John 3:4)

In Hebrew, REPENTANCE comes from the word: TURN / RETURN ), and it both MEANS and REQUIRES ... that we STOP going OUR WAYS and OUR THOUGHTS
and TURN / TURN AROUND / RETURN to the WAYS and THOUGHTS of YHWH ELohim
according to His "LAW"

IF we have NOT STOPPED going OUR WAYS and OUR THOUGHTS and have NOT STARTED LEARNING and OBEYING the WAYS and THOUGHTS of YHWH ELohim according to His "LAW" we have NOT MADE REPENTANCE

-------

SIN is TRANSGRESSION of the “LAW”

SO ... WHAT SINS are people allegedly REPENTING OF, if there is allegedly no "LAW" to make REPENTANCE for?

Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Amos 8:11  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Ruth 1:1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

If a jew rejects that Jesus was the messiah, then they are still bound by the sacrificial laws for redemption of sin.

Re: If God's law has passed, what sins are you repenting for??
The standard of right and wrong is LOVE. Very simple.

Jesus's words in John 13:34 "I give you a new commandment--to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

It really is that basic. :)

If you are one of the people that believe that you have to keep the OT law to be saved, then you must keep all of it because you will be judged by it.

If you believe that Jesus died for your sins to set you free, then you're under the new covenant, that of love and grace. Practice LOVE in your life, and let the Holy Spirit be your guide.

Jesus did give that new commandment, but never said it abolished all before it. If you love your neighbour, you won't steal from them or sleep with your neighbours wife, nor will you covert their life. So the law hangs from these. Have a look at the short video Lisa it's only 7 minutes hf

The word "NEW" signifies that it's different from the "OLD". We are under a new covenant.........one of Love & Mercy through Jesus Christ.

I will not watch the video, because I've already done all my homework and research on this topic, and I know the answer.

Considering it again would be moving backwards.

I agree, it doesn't abolish all those before it. I look at myself as a Father of two children, I love them exceedingly, I love them so much. But would I be a good Father if I told them they had zero rules in their life? What it be good for them if I let them do whatever they like at the age of 8 and 5? Of course not, it would be irresponsible, so to our heavenly Father has rules for us, not to punish us, but to show us how he wants us to live. Love is at the heart of it, there's no contradiction there.

I don't agree with this at all. It makes Jesus a liar who said the law would not pass before heave and earth pass away:

Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Has heaven and earth passed way? Definitely not yet!

It also makes these verses impossible to understand:

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Look at Matthew 5, in Jesus own words, the law is not destroyed and will not fail until heaven and earth pass away.
Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

 Quoting: Jerichofall

He fulfilled it because He had to be the perfect sinless sacrifice for the rest of us.

You can't fulfill it, it's not even possible for you. You are a sinful creature, it's just a fact.

I love you dearly, but you've fallen into a pit. Please understand that you're a new creature in Christ, released from the bondage of sin and death through HIS sacrifice and the power of the Holy Spirit. You still deny this and are moving backwards.

If you preach the law and believe that you must keep the law, then you are under the bondage of sin and death and christ's sacrifice has no value for you at all. If Christ's sacrifice has no value for you, then you are not forgiven!

Please think about it. The entire NT testifies to this fact. You can dismiss this by saying that you believe Paul was a false apostle, which you do, that allows you to throw out the entire NT and testimony of christ, and move backwards to the OT and the laws of bondage, punishment and death.

Dangerous........and moving away from the Lord.

Please consider. You're being deceived.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses\' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Look at Matthew 5, in Jesus own words, the law is not destroyed and will not fail until heaven and earth pass away.

He fulfilled it because He had to be the perfect sinless sacrifice for the rest of us.

You can\'t fulfill it, it\'s not even possible for you. You are a sinful creature, it\'s just a fact.

I love you dearly, but you\'ve fallen into a pit. Please understand that you\'re a new creature in Christ, released from the bondage of sin and death through HIS sacrifice and the power of the Holy Spirit. You still deny this and are moving backwards.

If you preach the law and believe that you must keep the law, then you are under the bondage of sin and death and christ\'s sacrifice has no value for you at all. If Christ\'s sacrifice has no value for you, then you are not forgiven!

You\'re being deceived.

I don\'t agree with this at all.

No, it's not. We are under a NEW COVENANT, one of Love and Mercy. Jesus's entire life, ministry and death proved this.

Yet people want to go backwards, back into the darkness. It's sad!

Re: If God's law has passed, what sins are you repenting for??

The commandments of God:

1. Love God
2. Love your neighbor

Luke 10:27-28 "He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

BINGO! There it is again.......simple straight forward and directly from the mouth of the Lord Himself!

1 John 2: And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

You left out that we are only commanded to love the Lord and our brethren. Also there are only 4 things we are commanded not do:

- Sexual immorality
- drink blood
- eat strangled meat
- worship idols

2 DOs and 4 DO NOTS. All the other rules throughout the ages are doctrines of MAN.

OK so everyone knows love fulfills the law.

Let's look at the world and discuss what we can do to refine things. If your sneaker wears out and gets holes you replace it right? So if there are problem issues in the world you take steps to work them out right?

Re: If God's law has passed, what sins are you repenting for??
The new covenant is this: Jesus replaces all animal sacrifices for sin as the perfect spotless sacrifice, the lamb of God. Jesus also replaces the Levite priesthood in it's entirety as our new high priest by the order of Melchisedek. The veil was rent in the temple, we can go straight to Jesus as our high priest as mediator to God the Father, who is now in a heavenly tabernacle, not needing an earthly physical one. That's the new covenant - not that we can now engage sin all we want! This is all explained in the book of Hebrews, but the churches have taught this cheap grace doctrine instead of paying attention to Jesus himself.

Lisa the law is not bondage, that's a lie I'm sorry but it is. Am I placing myself under bondage because I don't kill steal or commit adultery?! Serious! Do I make mistakes some times - yes. Do I then repent of them - yes, and this time the blood of Jesus covers the sin, not that of an animal.

We're stuck on this one, because you are absolutely convinced we are not under the law and I am absolutely convinced that Jesus said what he meant in Matt 5:18 - not the smallest letter fails until heaven and earth pass away. You pretty much said you don't care what 1 John has to say about commandment keeping because you've already made up your mind which is a shame. You won't read Heb 10 or anything I post because you've decided it's completely wrong. I'm not even bringing Paul in to this, I'm looking at the scriptures and most importantly what Jesus himself said to do. I don't know that there's anything I can show you, but in my walk with Jesus he has laid the law on my heart, to seek righteousness and die to the óld man', the sin man, and TRY (not being perfect) to be a good disciple and walk like my master.
