So, DuPree won by 37 votes.

According to this article:
[link to www.hattiesburgamerican.com]

DuPree had 3,147 votes, followed by Garmon with 730 and Starr with 141. That's a total of 4,018 votes.

That article does NOT show anything about Ware, who lost by 37 votes. Is that he had 3110 votes?

This article talks about Ware losing by 37 votes (why the hell do I have to post 2 articles to show that this guy ran and lost by 37 votes? Why is he not listed in the first? Outrageous!):

NOW, here's the lulz.

The city clerk left the damn FRONT door and the VAULT that was supposed to hold the uncounted affidavits UNLOCKED.

MS law does allow affidavits under these conditions:

You have a right to file an affidavit ballot. If an election worker requires that you show ID to vote, or if the worker tells you that your name is not in the poll book, you can file an affidavit ballot. Mississippi law requires the worker to provide you with one. If the worker does not offer you an affidavit ballot, you may ask for one.

On the affidavit ballot, you will have to promise that you:
• Believe you are a registered to vote at the precinct where you are trying to vote and are eligible to vote in the election; or
• Are unable to cast a regular ballot because of some provision of state or federal law, but that you are otherwise qualified to vote; or
• Believe that you have been illegally denied registration.
You will also have to provide:
• Your full name, address, and telephone number(s); and
• A signed statement that you believe you are registered at the precinct in which you are trying to vote.

The trial for the election's missing votes is over.

You really should read this story. I can't explain this clusterfuck.

Ware needed nine of the 12 jurors to determine that he had won the most legal votes in the June election.

After six hours deliberating the jury returned just past 6 p.m. with an apparent 9-3 verdict in Ware’s favor.

Coleman read the jury note announcing Ware’s victory then decided to poll each juror as to whether he or she agreed with the verdict.

Coleman ruled a private poll would be taken in the jury room with each juror writing down his or her vote.

Twenty minutes later, that paper poll came back — again with an 8-4 deadlock vote.

Well, well, well! Looks like there was enough shadiness going on to convince a few people.

Coleman, appointed by the state Supreme Court to hear the dispute, said absentee ballots in the June 4 election must be thrown out
