Almost a year ago to the day, Orange County Register "Sciencedude" Gary Robbins informed that QuakePredictions.com was reporting a "dangerous amount of energy" had built up in the Los Angeles area, making a 5.0 to 6.5 magnitude quake likely in the northeastern part of that county some time between April 13-15, 2009.

"No such quake occurred during the April 13-15 window," the Sciencedude blogged. "In fact, there hasn't been a 5.0 or larger quake in the urban part of greater Los Angeles since last July, when a 5.4 quake hit just north of Yorba Linda."

SFist was less kind earlier that same year, calling Thomas a a "Quake Quack" and "quite possibly schizophrenic," which may help explain why QuakePrediction.com's California maps appear to have been colored brightly by Crayons. One doesn't want to keep sharp objects around such folks.

"He can probably call himself 90 percent accurate every week," SFist sums up, "even if there's only a tiny tremor 200 miles from where he said it could be."

first of all, the geniuses at the "oc register" want to reopen the san onofre nuke plant, so their critiques of seismic prediction is extremely questionable.
secondly, there were 17 7-8.1 earthquakes that year, making it the most "quakey" year upto that date.
it was a miracle ca didn't have a huge quake.
that dosnt make the guy's "observations" wrong(ok the date was), it just means we were terribly lucky it didnt happen.

Scripps Researchers Map Vast Underwater Volcano the Size of San Diego County

The volcanoes lining tectonic ridges along the ocean floor are much more active than ones on ground. The magma that pours from them is constantly creating new seafloor.

This well of magma [that was found] chambered deep within the Earth's mantle beneath the Pacific Ocean is 100 miles deep and 100 miles wide.

So, where do these volcanoes get all their magma?

Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers used electromagnetic technology to map a huge well of magma fueling underwater volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean.

They studied the mantle beneath the East Pacific Rise, a tectonic ridge that turns into the San Andreas fault once it reaches California.

...the magma deposit turned out to be even bigger than previously thought.

[One researcher was quoted as saying], "If we were to actually take the image that we've made and lift it over say a Google map of San Diego county, the molten region would be as wide as San Diego county. So this is a really gigantic seafloor volcano."

maybe that's why all the police presence down there, maybe the "riot mob" is just a cover for the impending earthquake.
5mags this close to the beach are pretty freakin gnarly.

Long Beach HAS HAD an 6.4 earthquake before in 1933.

last time i was down there i saw massive "seismic monitor trucks" (they look like brinks trucks) measuring the activity on pacific coast highway. i thought nothing of it. should have taken pics....



we are also having a massive invation of stingrays or devilfish. hope that's not the sign.

the la riots happened in may 1992,
then the 7.3 Lander's Quake happened june 1992.

maybe the crazy people= earthquake prediction is not so far off.
