If you "needed" the resources, why is it Japan is doing so well economically, I don't think that is exactly true that Japan has little resources... At least not in the modern age.

What matters is the future goin forward. Now, I beileve a strong Japan is good for America to balance out a strong China. I believe a strong Japan is good for Philippines, SE Asia, and ASEAN nations for the same reason. And I believe alliances with these countries are also good for Japan. So fighting among ourselves is pointless.

China uses anti-Japan feelings to distract from internal Chinese problems. There are many poor Chinese angry about corruption in China. There have been many riots and demonstrations in China not reported very well. So the Chinese government says "hey, why not destroy a Japanese car factory instead?" And the idiots do it. It's like the "two minutes hate" in Orwells 1984. Release of tension and pressure.
